The Australia Awards aim to promote knowledge, education links, and enduring ties between Australia and our neighbours through Australia's extensive scholarship programs. The program brings together scholarships offered by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT), the Department of Education and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).

Eligibility criteria

Applicants must meet all the following criteria to be eligible to apply for the Curtin Humanitarian Scholarship:

Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian visa holder, New Zealand citizen or an international student holding one of the following visas:

Bridging Visa E holder in Australia
Bridging Visa A holder in Australia
Bridging Visa XA holder in Australia
Humanitarian Stay (Temporary) Visa (subclass 449)
Temporary (Humanitarian Concern) Visa (subclass 786)
Temporary Protection Visa (subclass 785)
Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (subclass 790)

Currently, reside within Australia
Apply to an eligible degree at Curtin University 
Enrol into:

An undergraduate degree at Curtin University in 2023 Semester 1 or
A postgraduate [masters by coursework] degree at Curtin University in 2023 Semester 1 or Trimester 1

Be from a refugee-like background, or the relative/dependant of such a person, who experienced forced migration and may have entered Australia in a number of ways including:

Off-shore approved refugee or humanitarian entrant
Onshore, community based Asylum Seeker or refugee
Temporary Protection Visa holder, Safe Haven Enterprise Visa or Bridging Visa
Family reunion

Able to provide details of refugee background
Financial hardship

Value

The Curtin Humanitarian Scholarship will provide the following support for the total expected duration of the degree (based on a full-time study load of 100 credits per semester):

Total cost of student tuition fees (excluding the Student Services & Amenities Fees (SSAF)) and
A cash stipend of AUD $5,000 per semester. The amount can be used at the recipients discretion to contribute towards educational related expenses.
