Media, Film, Journalism and Drama are delighted to offer a stipend at UKRI rates (currently £17,668 p.a.) and full fee waiver for a suitably qualified doctoral candidate from an under-represented background. We will accept research proposals related to one of our three core areas of research expertise:
Participatory Culture
Digital, Cultural and Creative Industries
Practice Research in Performance and/or Moving Image
Candidates should meet at least one of the following criteria:
Any experience in local authority care
Refugee status
Evidence of disability
Black or minority ethnic background
Applicants will be considered on the basis of the quality of their research proposal, their academic track record, their performance at interview and their fit to our areas of research expertise. This Scholarship is open to home students only. Candidates will normally be expected to live a commutable distance from campus and be on campus regularly in order to be an active member of the School's research community. You will need to dedicate 35 hours per week to your degree and must not also be working full-time. In principle, applications for part-time study can be considered, subject to approval. Scholarship recipients will be expected to contribute up 6 hours per week (unpaid) of activities to support areas such as teaching, research, public engagement or administration. You are encouraged to design a PhD project that can be completed in standard time the Scholarship applies only to standard time. You would pay for any period of additional or writing-up time at the end of your research degree at the relevant rate, if you choose to take this in addition to your standard time.
