Additional Requirements

If you're studying to become a teacher you may be eligible for a scholarship funded by an independent professional body or a bursary funded by the Department for Education.

You cannot receive both a scholarship and a bursary.

What you could receive

The funding available depends on the subject you are studying to teach, the qualification of your course, and your highest relevant academic qualification.

Scholarships and bursaries are normally paid over 10 equal monthly instalments from October to July.

If you're not eligible for a teacher education scholarship or bursary, you may be able to apply for the Student Success Scholarship.

Bursaries

You do not need to apply for a bursary. However, you must complete a claim form once you have started your course.

Scholarships

If you would like to be considered for a scholarship, you must apply to the appropriate professional body. Visit the Get into Teaching funding page to find out how and when to apply.

If your application is successful, we will ask you to complete a claim form once you have started your course.

If your scholarship application is unsuccessful, you can claim the standard bursary for your course, if you are eligible.
