Since its foundation, BİLGİ has attempted to establish a cultural and scientific community that promotes tolerance and respect for a diversity of individuals with different lifestyles, beliefs, and ways of thinking within the framework of contemporary universal values, while at the same time maintaining strong ties with all segments of the society.
Adopting the principle of 'Nonscholae, sed vitae discuss (learning not for school but for life), İstanbul Bilgi University took its place within the Turkish system of higher education as a civil corporation after the application made by the BİLGİ Education and Culture Foundation on 7 June 1996 and the subsequent approval by the Turkish Grand National Assembly according to Law number 4142.
Aiming to improve the education and research quality and carry out academic activities in line with the international quality standards, BİLGİ recognizes the importance of accreditation and quality assessment procedures. Adopting the principle of continuous improvement in line with the quality policy, BİLGİ, both on institutional and program level, has been awarded the quality and accreditation awards by globally reputable institutions.
