    About

    CQUni's Bachelor of Information Technology (Co-op) has been developed to provide you with a broad foundation of IT knowledge and skills necessary for a successful career in this growth industry. Featuring extensive work-integrated learning experiences, and industry-relevant majors to future-proof your career, you will be highly sought-after by employers across the IT sector.

    During your studies, your core units will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of key areas in IT and computer-based systems. From your second term, you will begin to study units from your chosen major - Application Development, Business Analysis or Cyber Security. 

    At the end of your second year, you will undertake a six-month, paid work placement where you will gain real-world and hands-on experience within the industry. Through this industry placement, you will be able to apply your knowledge and skills learned to real-world projects and gain valuable industry experience to enhance your work readiness.  

    You will have the flexibility to choose from a comprehensive range of minors to tailor your studies further. Choose from:

    You can also fast track your studies, by studying units in Term 3, so you can start your career sooner.

    You will also have the flexibility to exit the degree early after completing a number of units and graduate with an Associate Degree of Information Technology or Diploma of Information and Communications Technology.

    Paid industry placement and real-world opportunities

    CQUni's IT courses have a strong focus on practical learning experiences and feature internships, capstone projects or paid industry placement options. The Bachelor of Information Technology (Co-op) will provide you with valuable industry experience through a six-month paid industry placement. You’ll complete this placement after you have completed the first half of your degree. The skills, knowledge and experience you gain through this professional practice experience will enhance your work readiness while making industry connections with future employers.

    Both our Bachelor of Information Technology and Bachelor of Information Technology (Co-op) courses provide an optional internship or captsone project in your final term of study where you will gain practical and relevant experience tailored to your career aspirations.

    You have the flexibility to study one of three majors. These majors have been designed in consultation with industry to ensure that they offer you relevant and up-to-date skills and knowledge for a career in the innovative world of IT.

    Application Development

    The application development major covers programming, software design and development, distributed systems and internet technologies. This major equips you with the knowledge and skills to create applications that run on devices or browsers. There is strong employment demand for skilled web, cloud and mobile application developers.

    Business Analysis

    If you are interested in providing information technology solutions for organisations the business analysis major is an ideal option. This major covers data visualisation and dashboard design, enterprise systems, data science and business intelligence. There are diverse job opportunities in this field of information technology.

    Cyber Security

    An evolving area of specialisation in information technology is cyber security. The cyber security major allows you to learn about network security and communication, systems and network administration, electronic crime and digital forensics, cyber security technologies and applied cryptography.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    English (Units 3 & 4, C) or equivalent

    English Language Proficiency Requirements

    If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America, you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University.

    Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion of:

    • A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent), or
    • An Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) diploma level qualification, or
    • Bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years fulltime with a minimum overall GPA 5.5.

    completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland or United States of America, which will meet the English proficiency.

    If you do not satisfy any of the above, you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores:

    • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subset; or
    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Requires 550 or better overall and minimum TWE score of 4.5 (Paper Based Test), or 75 or better overall and no score less than 17 (Internet Based Test); or
    • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Requires an overall score of 54 with no sub-score less than 46; or
    • An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components.

    English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study, and must appear on a single result certificate.

    Each student will be assessed individually.

    English Program Requirements

    If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
