    The Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) degree is designed to develop students' knowledge and skill in research and involves a research project in a selected field of nursing. It is intended for registered nurses who wish to prepare themselves for higher degree studies. The honours program contributes to nursing leadership in practice, research and education.

    The concept of research is broad and includes the creation of new knowledge and/or the use of existing knowledge in a new and creative way so as to generate new concepts, methodologies, inventions and understandings. This could include synthesis and analysis of previous research to the extent that it is new and creative (Australian Research Council, 2018).

    The Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) program enables students to develop research design and presentation skills through:

    • Critical evaluation of the literature and current research
    • Participation in seminars
    • Engagement with an appointed supervisor(s)
    • Original research inclusive of:
      • A small research project or
      • Comprehensive literature review for publication

    The results of which will be presented as a thesis or publication ready document.

    The program consists of the development, conduct, analysis and reporting of research. The program consists of 80 units of Core Courses.

    Admission requirements

    Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants having completed a Bachelor degree in a cognate area with a minimum GPA of 5.0.

    In exceptional circumstances, an application which does not meet the above requirements may be considered.
