    Digital Design (3D Animation)

    About

Our Digital Design MSc degree programme offers you a choice of three pathways: motion graphics, 3D animation, or immersive mixed reality. It's a modern, hands-on course that combines digital technology and creative design, and it's been designed to equip you with the advanced knowledge and practical skills necessary for a range of technology-oriented design roles in the creative digital industries.

You'll be able to choose one of the three available pathways of motion graphics, 3D animation or immersive mixed reality as your specialism, as well as selecting from a range of modules from other pathways as your optional module(s). This offers you the flexibility to switch to another specialism mid-term should you wish.

On this course, you'll develop a deep understanding of advanced digital design working practices within the context of 3D animation and you'll develop advanced knowledge and skills from one of our other specialisms via your chosen module(s).

Our modern, industry-standard digital media facilities include an immersive virtual environment laboratory, a green screen and post-production studio, motion capture, sound, and photography studios, 4K digital cinema cameras, and a dedicated render farm. You'll have independent access to exclusive PC and Mac computing workshops and benefit from the latest industry-standard specialist software for graphic design and image / video editing, game development, 3D animation, digital compositing, and rich interactive content creation. Our immersive virtual environment laboratory includes an immersive 360آ° dome (planetarium) set up for Brunel by the National Space Centre in Leicester and is one of only a few in the UK!

You'll study four compulsory modules, which includes a dissertation module, and one optional module. This will give you an impressive portfolio of work, including a convincing digital artefact centrepiece developed as part of the dissertation.

    Please note:

    • the list of modules is published in advance of enrolment, therefore, it's only indicative and subject to change depending on post-enrollment demand. Whilst our aim is to keep changes to a minimum, existing modules may have to be withdrawn and new modules may be offered.
    • modules 'Human Factors in Design' and 'Design Creativity and Aesthetic Awareness' must be chosen together.

     When to apply?

We recommend that you apply as soon as possible for your chosen course, as courses in high demand often reach capacity and may need to close early or stop recruiting. Some courses, including (but not limited to) MSc Occupational Therapy (Pre-Registration), MSc Physiotherapy, MSc Physician Associate, all Brunel Business School courses, PG Economics and Finance courses, all Computer Science courses and PGCE teaching courses may have earlier application deadlines, early deposit payment deadlines or may stop recruiting early in the application cycle, due to limited capacity.

    • For courses beginning January 2023, we recommend you apply by 7 November 2022. After this deadline applications will be accepted only if there are spaces on the course and there is sufficient time to progress your application (e.g. interviews, portfolios if required, the visa process for international students)
    • For courses beginning September 2023, we recommend you apply by 21 July 2023. After this deadline applications will be accepted only if there are spaces on the course and there is sufficient time to progress your application (e.g. interviews, portfolios if required, the visa process for international students).

We will aim to make decisions on applications within 4-8 weeks of the application being submitted. Depending on the time of year you submit your application, it may also take longer to process during peak application points in the cycle. Please ensure that your application form is as complete as possible at the time of submission (including scans of your qualifications and any other relevant documents) to avoid unnecessary delays.
