    Overview Natural and man-made disasters impose sudden and catastrophic challenges to health care delivery and public health services. Local hospitals can suddenly become inundated with casualties, emergency medical resources could become overloaded and interruption or contamination of the water supply can turn a functioning community into a public health emergency. This Emergency Public Health Certificate Program from Wright State University will provide education in consequence and crisis management of disaster impacts, analyses of planning and coordination that support public health emergency/medical readiness systems and examination of policies that impact emergency preparedness. People who have responsibilities in planning and health systems will benefit from case studies and examples presented in this hands-on educational experience.Program Learning Outcomes:Students will be able to identify core components of an emergency management system and apply this to public health systems. Key public health values and a shared public health vision as guiding principles in crisis situations and preparing for, responding to, and recovering from acts of terrorism.Students will be able to describe: components of emergency management response and apply them to public health, construction of an emergency management organization, how policy options can influence public health in crisis situations and learners will know the major legal framework for emergency and disaster response, how terrorism policy decisions can influence public health; including response to active acts of terrorism and learners will know the major response aspects regarding acts of terrorism.Students will have knowledge about the aspects of emergency management systems needed to work as a public health professional.     Students will demonstrate respect for all persons and all cultures.Students will develop awareness for personal/family emergency preparedness plans.Students will discuss how to improve public health’s organizational capacity in the event of a disaster, emergency or crisis.     The Emergency Public Health Certificate Program from Wright State University will provide students with an understanding of emergency management systems and teaches critical thinking skills applicable to public health, hospital, pre-hospital and emergency management systems.

Minimum graduate school requirements include an earned bachelor’s and/or advanced graduate degree from an accredited college or university.If you are not currently enrolled at Wright State, you can apply as a non-degree student online through the Wright State Graduate School. All applicants should submit the online Emergency Public Health Certificate application along with a one- to two-page personal statement describing your professional background and interest in the program.
