    Become an expert in diagnostic pathology and medical research.

    The Laboratory Medicine program is designed for graduates of biology, biotechnology, biomedical science, or related degrees. If you are interested in a career in diagnostic pathology or medical research, this is the program for you.

    A Graduate Certificate in Laboratory Medicine is also available to study and can be used as a pathway into the masters program.

    Students will graduate career-ready. You will be prepared for employment in modern pathology facilities and for leadership roles in the industry.

    You will gain first-hand experience of the latest advances in diagnostic medicine. You will develop the knowledge and skills to be a key player in the innovation and development of the industry. This program covers:

    This program will provide you with advanced knowledge to build your career. The courses have been developed in collaboration with leading industry experts.

    You will have the option to choose from two specialisations:

    • Clinical specialisation - this specialisation is co-designed with industry to prepare you to work within diagnostic medical laboratories, and includes clinical disciplines such as haematology, clinical chemistry, medical microbiology, immunology and genomics. You will complete 16 weeks of career ready placement within modern laboratory medicine facilities.
    • Research specialisation - this specialisation opens students up to medical research opportunities. You will be prepared to work in clinical laboratory research, or in the field of medical technology and applications for pathology equipment. You will complete a 12-month placement program in a research facility.

    Placement is a key part of your degree. It's important you familiarise yourself with Clinical Placements and the NSW Health Verification process. Verification can take up to 6 months, so we recommend looking into this as soon as possible.

    English Program Requirements

    Applicants who do not speak English as a first language must demonstrate that they meet the University's English proficiency requirement. Further information regarding English language proficiency requirements can be found at the English Language Proficiency for Admission Policy.

    In the application portal, you can enter the program you wish to study and upload relevant documents needed as part of your application. It is recommended you submit your application a minimum of 12 weeks before your intended semester of trimester start date.
