Kiel University offers a Master's degree programme in Computer Science. Lectures are held in German as well as in English, and we take care to offer programmes which can be studied with proof of knowledge in one of these languages.
In our module database, you will find a programme named "Computer Science", in which all of the recommended modules are taught in English. You may choose according to this recommendation. However, our Master's programme is designed to give you high flexibility, so if you are interested in a specific alternative module, you should contact the named research adviser of this programme. As we do not expect you to choose the research adviser for your thesis right at the beginning of your Master's studies, it is possible to modify this programme even after you have started your Master's studies. However, it is recommended that you choose your research adviser by the beginning of the final year of your Master's studies.
Requirements
Entry Requirements
Admission to our Master's programme is only possible with a Bachelor's degree in computer science that is comparable to the Bachelor's degree in computer science awarded by our department. English language skills must be proved via a GRE test result with at least 145 points in verbal reasoning.
The Bachelor's and Master's studies in Kiel are research-oriented. Therefore, Bachelor's degrees achieved outside of Kiel often lack fundamental concepts in theoretical and practical topics, such as advanced programming (beyond object-oriented concepts), mathematical foundations (especially mathematical proofs), theory of computation, and logic in computer science. To adapt this knowledge to the Kiel Bachelor's degree, applicants from outside the "Bologna region" will probably have to attend and pass exams in these fields before they can be admitted.
