    About

    The Master of Science in Medical Devices and Biomaterials will provide students with the education and training relevant to the design and development of medical devices. Special emphasis is placed on the principles of engineering design methodology, computational and modeling aspects of medical devices, and design and use of biomaterials in medical devices.

    Illinois Techs Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering/Master of Engineering in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering accelerated master's program allows students the opportunity to pursue advanced studies and complete both degrees in as few as five years.

    Our undergraduate mechanical engineering curriculum prepares students for the design, development, and manufacturing of machinery and devices at all scales in the area of energy production and transfer, as well as the vast area of system design and control.

    The masters program in mechanical and aerospace engineering is focused on broadening student potential and enhancing technical versatility. Students will develop a high level of competence in engineering science, current technology, and engineering design for successful industry careers.

    Students will gain thorough knowledge of engineering principles and methods to drive creativity and innovation through such subjects as computer-aided design and visualization, robotics, bioengineering, environmental engineering, and solar exploration.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Students applying to the Accelerated Masters Program must have completed at least 60 credit hours with at least one full semester (12 credit hours) of applicable undergraduate study at the university.

    Students must be at least one full semester (12 credit hours) away from undergraduate degree completion in order to apply.

    Applicants are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; however, please consult individual departments for specific minimum GPA requirements.

    English Program Requirements

    International students who fit into any of the following categories will be considered to have met the requirement:

    • Residents of a country where English is the only official language and who is a native English speaker
    • Graduates of U.S. high schools
    • Completed the equivalent of Iowa State’s English 150 or 250 with a grade of B or better at an accredited U.S. 2 year or 4 year college or university.

    CONDITIONAL ADMISSION

    If you meet all admission requirements but do not meet our English proficiency requirements, Iowa State offers conditional admission to attend our Intensive English and Orientation Program (IEOP). If you would like to enroll in IEOP, on the application choose "I would like to enroll in Iowa State’s IEOP program before I begin the academic study.”
