Pathway students enrol on the undergraduate BSc Hons Pharmacology at Glasgow Caledonian University. In the first two years, they study HND Applied Biological Sciences at Glasgow Kelvin College while preparing for years 3 and 4 (for Honours) of the degree at GCU.

BSc (Hons) Pharmacology graduates enjoy excellent career prospects as pharmacologists in healthcare, policy, research, and the pharmaceutical industry.

Begin this degree at college, and achieve an HND in two years. You can become a pharmacologist if you enjoy hands-on practical laboratory work using the latest techniques. Study the human body and the drugs used to manage disease at degree level.

Although you are a student enrolled on BSc Hons Pharmacology course at GCU, years one and two of the course will take place at Glasgow Kelvin College.

The first two years will involve you working towards achieving an HND in Applied Biological Sciences and the subjects you study will underpin the teaching at Glasgow Caledonian University in year 3 and 4 of the degree. Pharmacology plays a key role in the development of new medicines.

You will learn how the body works, and how drugs can be used to manage disease states. Our degree provides a comprehensive education in pharmacology and all students have the opportunity to proceed to Honours without further selection.

Aspirin is a painkiller, but it is also used in the management of cardiovascular disease. How does it work? How do inhalers relieve asthma attacks? What is a heart attack? Can drugs be developed to prevent or minimise the effects of a heart attack?

Pharmacologists are responsible for the wide range of drugs that are available for the management of human disease. This Pharmacology degree has been developed from the long-established and respected Applied Biosciences degree.

The content of this programme has been designed to follow the guidelines set out by the British Pharmacological Society, the lead body for pharmacology professionals. Lecturing staff combine a depth of teaching experience with knowledge gained from cutting-edge research to provide you with an excellent learning environment and a broad education in pharmacology.

Moreover, this degree encompasses a large proportion of practical work, which ensures that our graduates develop the laboratory skills sought by employers. A distinctive and important feature of the degree is that all students who successfully complete each year of the programme are eligible to proceed to the Honours degree, should they wish to, without further selection.

Learning groups are deliberately kept small and this, together with an "open door policy" operated by staff, is aimed at creating a friendly learning environment where support is always available.

Students who have sat a secondary school qualification in Saudi Arabia are not generally able to join an undergraduate programme at the University and would be required to undertake a foundation programme before joining one of our undergraduate programmes at GCU.
