    About

Members of the Social Scientists in Health research group work across a range of Social and Public Health topics and welcome PhD applications in the following areas:

  • Understanding concepts and drivers of health: work to locate the social and cultural forces that underpin and produce health practices and outcomes.
  • Improving health and wellbeing: work which designs and evaluates culturally situated interventions to improve health and wellbeing, with specific concern for redressing health inequalities.
  • Public policy and health: work which engages critically with public policy as a key determinant of health and considers alternative policies which tackle health inequalities.
  • We welcome applicants from low- and middle-income countries and we have significant experience of supervising students whose PhD research takes them overseas.
