    About

    Would you like to top up your HND qualification to gain an Honors degree in banking, finance and investment? If you have an existing academic background in a related subject area such as business, accounting or finance, this stimulating course provides the ideal opportunity to develop your skills further and enhance your job prospects. The BSc (Hons) Banking, Finance and Investment course helps prepare you for a career in a variety of financial institutions including banks, investment management, consultancy and equity trading. Covering three distinct themes: Banking, Finance and Investment, this degree will allow you the opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge in a variety of contexts, from investing and trading in equity markets, international financial markets, corporate finance theory and banking in an international context. Youll have access to our excellent facilities, including trading room facilities, simulation software and market data used in the finance sector providing an added dimension to your learning. Accounting At USW Is ranked Top 20 in the UK for Accounting and Finance. (Guardian League Table 2022)

    Youll study six modules that have been designed to provide you with an advanced understanding of banking, finance and investment with an international perspective. You will study the following modules:

    • Banking in an International Context
    • Corporate Governance in Financial Institutions
    • Principles of Corporate Finance
    • International Financial Management
    • Theory and Practice of Securities Trading
    • Debt, Investment and Risk

    Teaching

    Our student-focused approach is a great way to engage with the subject, the tutors and your fellow students. You will be taught using a variety of approaches including practical classes, workshops and computer based laboratory sessions which is led by the practical nature of the subject areas studied. Students will be exposed to a number of finance related tools which are used to examine empirical data on financial securities and portfolios, and the use of a share and commodity trading simulation in order to gain experience of interpreting market information.

    Assessment

    You will be assessed through written and practical assignments and time constrained set exercises.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Foundation Degree or HND qualification or equivalent with an accounting and/or finance related element.

    Application for entry with Advanced Standing will be considered from students holding relevant professional qualifications, for example, CII Regulated Diploma in Financial Planning. Where applicable, equivalent international qualifications are acceptable.

    Students who hold professional accounting or other accounting and finance qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.

    Any degrees, diplomas or certificates eligible above should have been taught and assessed in English, or English fluency to TOEFL 550 or higher, or IELTS 6 or higher.

    Please note that whilst this course does not require a DBS Check for entry, some professions will not consider candidates who have certain types of criminal convictions.    Therefore, if you have a criminal conviction and you are considering a particular career path we would recommend that you check with the relevant professional body or refer to their recruitment policy to make sure that your conviction will not disadvantage you.
