This course is designed for individuals wishing to become accredited Sonographers.
Please note, we have limited places in this course. Therefore, please submit your application and documentation as soon as possible so that your application can be considered. Applicants will be ranked and selected based on published entry requirements and their entire academic record. Meeting the minimum entry requirements and course specific prerequisites, does not guarantee selection. Please refer to the following link for further application guidelines.
Students can exit the course after 48 credit points (minimum 2 years of part-time study) with a Graduate Diploma in Ultrasound which meets the qualification requirement for accreditation as a Sonographer in Australia.
The final year of the course focuses on developing research skills via an ultrasound research project. Following completion of the two foundation units (SON4000 and SON4010) students must be engaged in supervised clinical ultrasound training practice for a minimum of 3 days/week (or equivalent). It is the student's responsibility to secure their own clinical training placement.
The course resources are provided mainly on-line. The material is structured to guide the student through study material on a weekly schedule. Applicants will generally be graduates of a degree program in Radiography or equivalent.
Applicants holding degrees in related disciplines (such as Medicine, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Radiation Therapy, Nuclear Medicine or other Health Sciences) are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The Master and Graduate Diploma of Medical Ultrasound are both accredited by the Australian Sonographers Accreditation Registry.
