Established in 1803, Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development is a public university located in Eberswalde, Germany.With a broad range of degree programs, it offers a unique academic and culturally immersive experience for international students.

With its 15 programs, the University of Applied Sciences in Eberswalde has a very distinctive profile dedicated to sustainable economic activity. The cooperation at the University of Applied Sciences in Eberswalde between disciplines oriented towards rural areas and regional and international partners in research and applications is unique nationally.

The Eberswalde site has been committed to sustainable research and teaching for over 185 years: The Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE) was founded in 1830 as a higher forestry school. Since the resumption of studies in 1992 at the traditional forest and wood research location just outside Berlin, the university has focused on future industries and key areas such as renewable energies, regional management, sustainable tourism, nature conservation, forestry, organic farming, adaptation to climate change and sustainable economy.

In 2009, the HNE Eberswalde was named the greenest university in Germany by the Internet portal Utopia. In 2010 the university received the European EMAS Award for its exemplary environmental management and has been climate neutral since 2014.
