The program provides you with an understanding of theories related to loss, grief and trauma experiences and the ability to counsel people in a culturally effective manner. Topics cover areas such as bereavement and loss, interventions in situations of trauma, and professional practice project. You may also be able to select one elective in interventions with children and young people or loss, grief and trauma counselling - human-animal interactions.

Entry Requirements

Credit for previous university studies is granted at the discretion of the faculty that administers a chosen course. If you are seeking credit or exemption you will need to provide detailed subject outlines of studies completed.
If you do not meet the necessary academic requirements you may enrol in a Foundation Program at Flinders International Study Centre (FISC).
English Program Requirements
If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
Career
This course will strengthen the knowledge base and practice skills of those already working in, or seeking to work in, settings providing services to people who have experienced significant loss or trauma. It does not qualify graduates for accreditation by any of the Australian counselling accreditation bodies.
