Overview
Canterbury is located in the southeast England. It was a pilgrimage destination during the Middle Ages, The ancient walls had been established initially by the Romans. The area of Canterbury reaches about 45,346 km2 hosting a population of 148,000 people in 2021.
Canterbury is a safe place to live for the percentage of crime is under the national average. In 2019 Canterbury was chosen to have been the 3rd happiest city in the UK.
The city was built in 597 AD by Augustine; it is a World Heritage Site, besides having a set of historical sites. With visitors of more than one million every year, it is the most visited destinations in the UK.
John Robert Godley is the one who founded Canterbury despite of living for only three years in the region. He was famous for his leadership in preventing the Canterbury Association from controlling the settlement again. Its name was gained for the first time from the “Cantiaci tribe” that settled the area at the time of the Roman invasion.
