Academic Thinking

Developed by our expert team of lecturers who have many years of experience of working with students on building their study skills, the main aim of this Academic Thinking module is to give students a valuable insight into academic life before they even begin their Undergraduate studies, and provide them with a range of useful transferrable skills that they can take anywhere. 

With support available on hand from the University's lecturers, students will be able to build their individual portfolio of transferrable skills including critical thinking, note-taking, effective time-management, reading and writing strategies for academia, and how to structure an argument.

On successful completion of the online assignments, participants will have the opportunity to achieve 5 credits at the same level as the first year of University (level 4) that can be put towards further study at the University.  

Completion of the module as well as the skills gained will look excellent on CV or UCAS Personal Statement.

Upon completion of registration students will have a UWTSD account giving access to:

• University email account
• IT Service Desk support
• Library and online learning services

This online course will introduce participants to activities and resources that will help them develop a range of academic reading, writing, and critical thinking skills to help them through their current studies as well as prepare them for University-level education.

Suitable for school or college bookings, or for individuals wishing to prepare themselves for higher education level of study.

Delivery and Start Date

This course is delivered entirely online and can be studied at a pace to suit you- there is no set start date.

The module involves online activities and discussion. In total to complete all activities and the assessment portfolio, we estimate it will take 50 hours including any additional reading you are encouraged to undertake.
