    Interested in the education sector? Are you thinking of taking a university course in this field but dont currently meet the entry requirements? Our Access to Higher Education Diploma (Education) is the ideal stepping stone to help you towards the next level of study as well as a future working in teaching or other education careers. The Access to Higher Education Diploma is a Level 3 qualification providing an equivalent to A-levels. Designed for adult learners and those without traditional qualifications or a formal educational background, the course combines providing an introduction to your chosen subject area with developing the essential skills you need to study at higher levels. You will gain foundational knowledge of areas such as the development of education, influences in achievement, theories of child development and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), as well as building skills such as academic writing and study techniques. Our expert tutors and staff will support you throughout your course, at the end of which you will have gained a nationally-recognised qualification that will open the doors to higher education. You will also have the foundations for a range of future careers, from working in primary and secondary schools to nurseries or SEND environments.     English Program Requirements

    To apply for all undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, you will need to sit an approved test in English if it is not your first language. This might include achieving IELTS (Academic or UKVI) of 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band, depending on your course requirements.

    In addition, we accept Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 72 with minimum band scores of Reading 18, Writing 17, Listening 17, Speaking 20 for Undergraduate (BA, BSc) and most postgraduate degrees.

    If you are applying for the International Foundation Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism, you will need UKVI IELTS of 5.0 with no less than 4.5 in any band.

    IELTS can be taken from the British Council. Please note that the date of your IELTS award must be within two years of your degree/master’s degree start date.

    We also accept the following online tests for entry onto degree-level courses:

    • TOEFL (iBT) Home – minimum scores as above
    • Language Cert - a minimum of 'pass' at B2 level
    • IELTS Indicator - minimum scores as above

    Career

    This course is designed to enable your progression onto higher education. Depending on entry requirements, you could continue onto a degree at University College Birmingham, such as Primary Education Studies (Accelerated), Childhood Education Studies (Online) or Early Childhood Studies. For secondary education, you could undertake one of our vocational degrees (such as Sport, Coaching and Fitness or Computer Science) followed by a PGCE.
