    Accounting and finance at Brighton is taught by our AACSB-accredited School of Business and Law. AACSB accreditation is achieved by fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide.

    Accounting and finance are essential to any successful business career. Constantly evolving with new technologies and regulations, accounting and financial issues create both challenges and opportunities for professionals.

    Our Finance and Accounting BSc degree will help you to understand how money works at an organisational and individual level, alongside developing critical skills that are valued by employers, like problem-solving, analytical thinking and the ability to communicate complex financial information in a clear and concise manner.

    Entry Requirements

    A-levels or BTEC
    Entry requirements are in the range of A-level BBB–BCC (120–104 UCAS Tariff points), or BTEC Extended Diploma DDM–MMM. Our conditional offers typically fall within this range. International Baccalaureate
    26 points, with three subjects at Higher level. Access to HE Diploma
    Pass with 60 credits overall. At least 45 credits at level 3, with 24 credits at merit. T-level
    Merit in the Finance or Accounting T-levels. No other T-levels accepted. GCSE (minimum grade C or grade 4)
    At least maths. If you do not have the required GCSEs, find out which equivalent qualifications we accept instead. Foundation degree/HND
    May enable you to start the course in year 2. Relevant subjects required. Studied before or got relevant experience?
    A qualification, HE credits, or relevant experience may count towards your course at Brighton, and could mean that you do not have to take some elements of the course or can start in year 2 or 3. English language requirements

    Our Accounting, Finance and Economics BSc(Hons) with integrated foundation year provides an extra year of study at foundation level if you do not have the academic qualifications or experience needed for entry to this course. Successful completion of the foundation year enables you to progress onto year 1 of this degree.

    This course is accredited by five professional bodies, and successful completion of specific modules offers exemptions from professional exams. You may also benefit from student membership, access to networking events and online resources.

    Exemptions from Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)

    This course includes modules accredited by the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA). On successful completion of the course, all students will be exempt from the ACCA's Applied Knowledge level papers and the Corporate and Business Law, Performance Management, Financial Reporting and Financial Management papers from the Applied Skills level (formerly papers F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, F7 and F9).

    Depending on the options you choose you can complete eight of the nine ACCA Applied level papers to become a part-qualified accountant.

    • Students taking the Taxation module option at level 6 will also get exemption from the ACCA's Taxation paper (formerly F6).

    • Students completing the Audit and Assurance module will also get exemption from the ACCA's Audit and Assurance paper (formerly F8).

    Completion of these papers will also meet the entry requirements to apply for our ACCA Accountancy MSc.

    Exemptions from Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW)

    The ICAEW is a world leading professional membership organisation that promotes, develops and supports more than 147,000 chartered accountants worldwide.

    Depending on module choices all students could be exempt from the Professional Stage papers: Accounting, Management Information, Law and Financial Management.

    You can also be exempt from the ICAEW Assurance and Principles of Taxation if the optional modules Audit and Assurance and Taxation are passed.

    Exemptions from Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)

    CIMA is the world’s leading, and largest, professional body of management accountants.

    All students may be exempt from the foundation level Certificate in Business Accounting and from Operational and Management levels. Depending on module choices, students could be exempt from all fundamental level papers.

    AACSB accreditation

    The University of Brighton is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

    Prepare for your career

    Throughout the course you’ll learn numeracy, communication, data handling, problem-solving skills and their application to business situations in the UK and internationally. You will also gain practical skills such as project management, time management, presenting and budgeting.

    • regular employability weeks with activities to boost your employability.

    During your studies, you will build up exemptions from the professional accounting exams from professional bodies such as the Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), making you attractive to firms who can quickly train you up to be a fully qualified accountant.

    Placements

    As a student completing a work placement, you are one step ahead when it comes to securing the right job after your course. You are encouraged to take placement opportunities during holidays to build valuable work-related experience for your CV.

    This real-life work experience, is highly valued by employers and will give you a distinct advantage over others when applying for jobs and starting your career.

    Graduate destinations

    The course will prepare you for a wide range of careers in finance and investment.

    Our graduates have gone on to work in investment banks, commercial banks, building societies, brokerage firms and insurance companies. You will be qualified to work in the financial or treasury departments of large companies.

    The course is highly relevant if you wish to become a management consultant, financial market regulator or active in governmental services where a knowledge of the financial system may be required.
