    An accounting degree from York College prepares you for a world of opportunities. Accountants play a pivotal role, whether it's planning a merger or acquisition, auditing a pension plan, or uncovering a fraudulent insurance scam. Our accounting majors take a full range of courses including taxation, ethics, auditing, law, and can select electives such as financial fraud, international accounting, government and not-for-profit accounting, and other special topics. At York College, students can personalize their studies by selecting complementary minors in finance, information systems, or other areas of specialization. Upon graduation, students are prepared to pursue CPA licensure and certifications in internal auditing, management accounting, and fraud examination.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Specific requirements and recommended curricula for each baccalaureate degree program are described in the  Programs of Study   section of this catalog. The general requirements for earning a baccalaureate degree at York College, which apply to all departmental bachelor’s degree programs, are:

    1. Successful completion of at least 120 credit hours and matriculation in a specific academic program. To satisfy the College’s residence requirement, the last 30 of these credits must be earned at York College.
    2. Achievement of a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher. In certain majors, a higher minimum grade point average may be required for degree completion.
    3. Successful completion of the designated program requirements for a specific major and achievement of the appropriate grade point average in the major as specified by the departmental curriculum in the Programs of Study   section of this catalog.
    4. Completion of the Generation Next Requirements for baccalaureate majors and achievement of the appropriate grade point average in these courses as specified in the Generation Next Requirements section below.
    5. Students completing a second York College Baccalaureate Degree are not required to repeat the general education requirements.

    English Program Requirements

    English language proficiency is required for all students whose native language is not English. Proof of English proficiency is required for both admission and the issuance of visa documents. Applicants must be proficient for admission consideration.

    York College accepts the following standardized tests to determine English proficiency for non-native English speaking applicants for Undergraduate and Graduate programs:

    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum required score: 79 for the Internet-based test
    • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum required score: 6.0 overall band
    • Duolingo English Test (DET) minimum required score: 95 
    • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic)  minimum required score: 58
    • Global Test of English Communication (GTEC)  minimum required score: 1190

    Note: International students also have the option to submit SAT or ACT test results as evidence of English proficiency.
