    FILM & VISUAL CULTURE

    If you want an exciting career in the creative industries, but also want to understand the role that Film and Visual Culture plays in wider society, studying at Liverpool Hope is the right choice for you.Film and Visual Culture is an intellectually stimulating degree that combines practice and theory, givingyou the opportunity to both create and analyse a range of cultural texts - from fiction film and documentary, to photography and animation.

    This degree is underpinned by creative and critical practice. It is creative because it gives you the opportunity to develop practical skills in the fields of screenwriting, filmmaking (drama and documentary), photography and animation. It is critical because it involves the in-depth study of film history and theory, including the way in which cinema intersects with a range of social and political issues. You will graduate with a degree underpinned by academic rigour, but with the transferable skills needed to pursue a wide variety of careers in the creative industries.

    The degree is taught by leading international scholars and practitioners and you will also benefit from access to outstanding library resources and an extensive range of practical equipment and studio space. Extra curricula activities support the curriculum by widening critical and creative horizons. Recent activities on the degree include fieldtrips to the National Science and Media Museum, Tate Britain, and the Manchester Animation Festival. We also have regular group visits to local film screenings.

    English Program Requirements

    If you require a Student Route Visa to study in the UK, you will also have to meet the English language requirements for your study. These requirements are set by the UK Government.

    As a Higher Education Institute, Liverpool Hope University can choose how to assess a student’s knowledge of English. However, to meet UKVI requirements, all Student Route students must be at CEFR level B2 if you’re studying at a degree level or higher.

    Any qualifications that would be accepted in lieu of a SELT would need to be studied within an alloted time frame as indicated on the specific pages i.e 2/5 years. 

    You do not have to prove your knowledge of English if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree in, one of the countries listed below:

    How to Apply

    If you are applying to study for an undergraduate degree in a UK university, then you need to make your application through the Universities and Colleges Application Service (UCAS). This page provides you with all the essential details you need to know about applying through UCAS.

    UCAS Codes

    Every university in the UK has a unique UCAS number and abbreviated name, which you need to include on your application form. The UCAS number and abbreviated name for Liverpool Hope University are L46 and LHOPE.

    UCAS Deadlines

    You can apply through UCAS from the 1st September for entry the following autumn.

    The normal closing date for receipt of UK and EU applications is usually 15th January, following which you can apply through UCAS Extra.

    International students can apply through UCAS between 1st September and 30th June.

    Application fee

    When you apply through UCAS, you need to pay an application fee, which for 2021 entry is £26 if you choose between two and five choices, or £20 if you make only one choice on the UCAS form.

    UCAS Track

    Once you have made your applications through UCAS, you can follow the progress of your application via UCAS Track.
