How you learn
This module uses a variety of learning strategies such as the presentation of key concepts, student led seminars, group discussion, coaching conversations. Where there are large numbers of students in the group, the group will be split into smaller groups to facilitate the in-depth group work and seminar discussion required at mastery level. or to enable meaningful online collaborative discussions to occur.
The module is designed to utilise leadership diagnostic tools (such as the NHS Healthcare Leadership Model or other equivalent appropriate leadership assessment tools). The assessment tools are used to increase self-awareness and facilitate the development of personal action plans to enhance effectiveness and leadership capability in the workplace. Students will access a 2-hour individual facilitated conversation or 2hour feedback session to the healthcare leadership model report where this tool is used. Students will critically reflect upon their challenges, the findings of the diagnostics and will explore how they use their strengths and their action strategies to address developmental needs. This facilitated conversation can be face to face or for students studying at a distance using appropriate contemporary software platforms.
Technology-enabled learning (such as recorded information and online interactive learning sessions) will be utilised to support learning and further explore the students philosophy and challenges that are experiences in a professional role related to leadership and management. Students will be provided with a timetable identifying when synchronous learning activities will occur (classroom or online).
The student will write a 3,000-word reflective essay which evaluates critically their personal effectiveness and leadership capability in relation to his/her role.
The assignment will usually be submitted by Week 14 of the module. All learning outcomes assessed.
