    About

    You will study specialist modules in advertising strategy, media planning, creative campaign development and brand management and communication. As a combined Honours course, you will then select another subject area to pair with Advertising. There are a lots of options, including Marketing, Business Management, Events Planning, Digital Media, etc.

    You will explore areas including:

    • advertising campaign development
    • consumer behaviour and insight
    • creating advertising, PR and social media content
    • brand management
    • marketing – from basic operations to strategy

    In your first year of study, you will take introductory modules that give you a solid grounding in marketing with some wider business knowledge. In your second and third years, you will take core modules to build your branding, digital and consumer knowledge, with option modules to help you develop your career interests. Options include content creation and copyrighting, marketing research, digital and social media marketing, international and intercultural marketing communication.

    If you are looking for opportunities for travel there are short European trips, modules and schemes to spend a year in North America. In addition, between years two and three, you can choose to spend a year in a full-time, paid work placement, with support from the Business School and the University’s career development service. This valuable opportunity enhances your knowledge and professional development.

    The advertising industry plays a key role in communicating between the organisation and its customers – online, outdoor and through different media and social media channels.

    With the growth of digital media, advertising has become more challenging. In order to stand out from competitors, organisations have shifted to more creative and innovative approaches to ensure their brand attracts attention and that advertising expenditure is effective.

    This course puts advertising firmly in context of wider marketing and business activity. It is designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills and confidence to work effectively in advertising and marketing. You will learn how to combine creativity with business strategy, create effective advertising messages, and produce convincing presentations to deliver ideas.

    English Program Requirements

    All applicants for undergraduate programmes will need a minimum English level of IELTS or equivalent 6.0 overall, with no less than 6.0 in writing and no less than 5.5 in all other bands. Some programmes require 6.5/7.0 – please contact the International Office if you are unsure of your course requirement.

    For postgraduate entry all applicants will need a minimum of IELTS 6.5 with no less than 6.0 in writing and no less than 5.5 in all other bands or equivalent. Some courses have a higher requirement – please contact the International Office if you are unsure of your course requirement.

    For International Foundation entry all applicants will need a minimum of IELTS 5.0 or equivalent, with no less than 5.0 in writing and no less than 4.0 in all other bands.

    If you have taken an IGCSE exam in English and have a Grade C, this will also usually be acceptable for most undergraduate courses.

    We are also able to consider some non-UK English qualifications for entry. The International Admissions Team will advise if they are able to accept your English language qualification once you have applied.

    Career

    The advertising and branding industries play an increasingly important role in the global economy. Successful graduates are equipped to work in a wide and varied range of roles across the advertising industry, from specialist advertising and media agencies to working within in-house marketing departments. There are also opportunities to work in brand management and communication, digital marketing, public relations, social media strategy, and media planning. Alternatively, you may wish to go on to postgraduate studies in marketing, brand communications and branding strategy.

    1. Choose your course 

    Before you start your application, you’ll need to choose the course you'd like to study. Still deciding? Search for a course. 

    2. Register with UCAS

    You can register your details with Apply, the UCAS online application system. There are various sections to complete as part of your application. These include your personal details, your five university/course choices, your education and employment history, your personal statement and references.

    Enter your course choices and UCAS codes 

    You'll need to enter the Canterbury Christ Church University institutional code C10 on your application. You'll also need to enter the individual course code which can be found on your course pages.

    If your course is at our Canterbury Campus, you do not need to add a campus code. If your course is based at our Medway Campus, please enter M.

    Writing your personal statement

    This is the most important section of your application, so take your time and think about what will make you stand out from the crowd. Write about yourself, why you want to study your chosen subject and refer to any relevant experience you have.

    Be enthusiastic and focus on what you’ve learnt from experiences you’ve had, such as work experience or volunteering. With teaching or health-related subjects, it’s best to show relevant experiences as this is likely to make your application more successful.

    Tell us about your career ambitions for the future, and how your course will get you to where you want to be. If you have interests, such as sports, theatre, travel, music or reading, your personal statement is the perfect place to include them.

    Supplying a reference

    If you're applying while at school or college, references will not appear on UCAS Apply as your school or college will add this for you. 

    If you’re not currently in education, you’ll need to complete your referee’s details. You can ask your manager or someone who knows you from a professional setting to provide a reference for you. For more information about supplying a reference, visit the UCAS website.

    3. Submitting your application

    Double check your application before you submit it, ensuring all the information is correct. The fee for applying through UCAS is £22 for one choice or £26.50 for multiple choices and late applications sent after 30 June. 

    Once you submit your application, UCAS processes it and sends it to your chosen universities. 

    4. Tracking your application

    You can see the progress of your application in your UCAS account. 

    We work hard to respond to your application as soon as possible, so you could hear from us within a matter of days or weeks. If you submit your application by the 26 January deadline, you'll hear back from us by early May at the very latest.
