    About

    BSc (Hons) AI and Data Science

    Harness the power of artificial intelligence and study the science of collecting, processing, analysing and using data.

    Course Information

    Whether you opt to study full or part-time, youll cover a total of eight units – including your field course and dissertation. Youll start off with core units exploring areas like behavioural biology, statistics and research design, and practical techniques.

    Youll also be able to delve into the specialist areas of the field that interest you the most. You can choose between our Species Recovery unit or the Avian Biology and Conservation unit, and pick two option units including topics like Conservation and Sustainability, Organismal Genetics or Earth Observation and GIS.

    The course delivery is flexible, with most lectures taking place in the evenings. Lectures, other course materials and assessment information is available via Moodle, our online learning platform. You will be assessed mostly through coursework, although some units have a formal examination.

    Youll take a field course unit, gaining valuable practical experience in ecological and data collection techniques. This unit could take you to visit some of the most famous wildlife sites in the world, from the Puszcza Białowieska primeval forest in Poland, to the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. While your final masters-level dissertation could also involve international travel for gathering data and conducting research.

    Examples of MSc student research projects 

    We are currently involved in a number of research studies on:

    • Laterality of vision and anti-predator behaviour in ungulates 
    • Habitat-use and canopy exploration in European dormice
    • The ecology and genetics of the black rhino to understand why their breeding rates are low in some Kenyan reserves
    • Communication in Lake Tanganyika cichlids
    • The impact of pastoralism and other habitat changes on animal behaviour and biodiversity conservation.

    • We are investing £115m to transform the way we teach in the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Opening in 2023, our new Dalton building will enhance collaboration between students, staff and industry and provide improved teaching spaces, including a new computing and mathematics studio.
    • You will experience what it's like to work as part of a professional team, finding solutions to complex problems via group projects. You can also get involved with extracurricular work to further apply your skills, such as hackathons, gaming events and the Students Union computing society.
    • Our excellent facilities include teaching laboratories equipped with high-specification PCs with specialist, industry-standard software running on either Windows or Linux.
    • Our dedicated drop-in lab provides an informal social working space with regular support sessions from our programme support tutors.

    Entry Requirements

    You should have the Tawjihi plus a recognised foundation or diploma (from a community college) or an Intermediate Diploma/Associate Degree.

    English Program Requirements

    You need to have a recognised English language qualification to study at Manchester Metropolitan.

    The score required will vary depending on the qualification and the area of study you have chosen. If you hold an offer of a place from the University, your offer will give you the specific requirements for your course. 

    Typical International English Language Testing System (IELTS) requirements are:

    • 6.0 (no less than 5.5 in any section) or equivalent for undergraduate courses
    • 6.5 (no less than 5.5 in any section) or equivalent for postgraduate courses

      Apply via UCAS

      UCAS Apply is an online application system and is suitable if you have regular access to the internet. You can apply for up to five courses. That could be five different courses at a single university or five courses at different institutions.

      UCAS Apply is offered through schools, colleges or British Council Offices if they are a registered UCAS centre. You can also make an independent application.

      The deadline for UCAS applications is 6:00pm UK time on 30 June. Applications received after this date will automatically be entered into UCAS Clearing

    • 3. Pay your deposit

      If you have accepted your offer to study at Manchester Metropolitan, you must pay a tuition fee deposit to secure your place.

      The deposit is first of your tuition fee payments. It is deducted from your total tuition fees.
