Ancient History and History BA (3 years)

If you are studying A-levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB) then you can apply for ‘direct entry’ to the first year of a bachelor’s degree.  Please note that only A-levels or IB will be considered for admission to Medicine or Dentistry.  

Due to differences in the Jordan and UK education systems, applicants who have taken the Thanaweyyah A’ama (or Tawjihi, secondary school certificate) are required to complete a University-recognised foundation programme before joining an undergraduate course:

Students who have achieved an overall Thanaweyyah A’ama (or Tawjihi, secondary school certificate) grade of 90% or higher with a minimum of 90% in Mathematics and Physics would be considered for the University’s Science and Engineering with an integrated foundation year programme,  Applications for the University’s Biosciences with a foundation year programme will be considered following completion of the Thanaweyyah A’ama (or Tawjihi, secondary school certificate) on a case by case basis.

Students who have achieved an overall Thanaweyyah A’ama (or Tawjihi, secondary school certificate) grade of 85% or higher would be considered for the foundation programmes (Engineering and Science, Humanities and Social Sciences (including Management and Law), Biosciences, Pharmacy and Psychology) run in partnership with the University by INTO Manchester. Subject-specific requirements may apply.

Diplomas from technical colleges may be considered for foundation or first year entry on a case-by-case basis.

The UK Visa and Immigration Authority (UKVI) requires that every student requiring a visa to study in the UK must show evidence of a minimum level of English language (Common European Framework (CEFR) B2 level) in order to be granted a Student Route visa (previously known as a Tier 4 visa) to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

In addition, our academic Schools may require applicants to demonstrate English proficiency above B2 level, as the academic content of a UK degree can be linguistically demanding. Academic English entry requirements vary by course, and can be found on individual course profiles.

• Step 1: Register with UCAS

  If you are applying to Manchester Met for a full-time degree, foundation year or foundation degree, you’ll need toapply online through UCAS.

  UCAS is the official application service for the UK and will send your application details to each of the universities you have listed onyourapplication.

  COST

  There is a standard UCAS administrative charge when applying to university. For 2022/23 entry the application fee will be £22.00 for one choice and £26.50 for applications with multiplechoices.

  Manchester Metropolitan University does not make any further charge for handling your application (with the exception of BA (Hons) Acting). For the2020/21academic year the audition fee (payable directly to the University if you are selected for audition) was£45.2022/23 audition costto beconfirmed.

• Step 2: Complete your online UCAS application

  When you register withUCASthey will give you a password and username so that you can access your application wheneveryoulike.

  You will need to complete the online application, including your personal statement, and your school or college will add the reference and send the application on toUCAS.

  Your school may give you an internal deadline date that is earlier than the officialUCASdeadline – this is to ensure that they have time to complete all of the references and process the forms beforethedeadline.

  Most applicants want to spend time thinking about their application. You can log in at different times and enter more information each time you log on. There is no time limit from when you start your application to when you send it, but you need to be aware ofthedeadlines.

  You can only send one UCAS application in each year’sapplicationcycle.

  You can apply for a maximum of five courses. This can either be courses at five different universities, or you may choose to apply to more than one course at thesameuniversity.

  It isvery important that you enter the correct institution code and course code foreachchoice.

  Mature students and independentapplicants

  If you are no longer at school or college you will need to apply to university as an independent applicant. When you register withUCASthey will give you a password and username so that you can access your application wheneveryoulike.

  You will need to complete the online application including your personal statement. You will also need to supply a reference from someone who knows you well, and is able to write about why you are suitable forhighereducation.

• Step 3: Submit your application before the January deadline

  If you are applying to university from the UK,you must submit your UCAS application between 8 Septemberand 26Januaryin order for it to be guaranteedequalconsideration.

  We guarantee to consider your application if we receive it by26January.

  You can still apply through UCAS after the 26January deadline. If we receive your application after the 26January and up until 30 June, we will still consider it if there are places available on the course, but some of the most popular courses may alreadybefull.

  Applications made after 30 June will have togo through clearing.

• Step 4: Keep up to date with your application

  Once you have applied throughUCASyou will be able to follow the progress of each of your applications by usingUCAS.

  We will email you with news of your application or to request further information if needed. For some courses, we make offers based entirely on the content of the UCAS form. For others, we may invite you to attend an audition or an interview, or ask you to submit a portfolio as part of theselectionprocess.

  If you do not receive any offers from your initial UCAS application, you can make additional choices throughUCAS Extraup to 4July 2022.You will be sent details ofUCAS Extraif youareeligible.

• Step 5: Check your offers

  If you submit your UCAS application before the 26January deadline, you should receive decisions from each of your university choices by19May2022.

  If you have received all of your university decisions by 19May2022,you will need to make your replies about which to accept by 9June2022.

  If you applied after the 26January deadline, or haven’t received all your university decisions by 19May2022then other reply dates will apply –visit the UCAS websitefor key dates.

• Step 6: Accepting your offer

  You can accept two courses – one must be yourfirm choiceand the other will be yourinsurance choice.

  If you meet the requirements of your firm choice you will be expected to take that place, so you need to be sure that the course you have accepted firmly is the one you wanttodo.

  If you miss the grades for your firm choice and meet the requirements for your insurance choice, you will be expected to take upthatplace.

  Once you are accepted (made unconditional) by your firm choice, your insurance choice is nolongervalid.

  If you decide you would prefer to go to your insurance choice rather than your firm choice university, it is important that you contact the universities to discuss your options as soon as possible and they will advise you of thenextsteps.

• Step 7: Confirming your place

  Unconditionaloffers

  If you have already met all of the entry requirements for the course, e.g. you completed examinations last year, we can make you anunconditional offer. As soon as you accept this it becomes a firm agreement and your placeisguaranteed.

  Conditionaloffers

  Most applicants will need to wait until they have the results of examinations they are due to take before they will meet all of ourentryrequirements.

  In this case, it is more usual for us to make aconditional offer.

  This means final confirmation of your place will be sent in August afterA-levelresults arepublished.
