    About

    *Starting for Fall 2021 applicants, the Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences MS degree is the MS program formally known as Animal Science. If you were wishing to apply to Animal Science for Fall 2021, please apply to this program instead.

    The Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program provides our students with an opportunity to perform research that spans from molecular biology and whole animal physiology to meat and dairy production to studies on the business of horse racing.   This broad range of interests and expertise provides our students with a unique opportunity to learn with a diverse group of colleagues as they develop skills that will help them as they train for a career in academia, the pharmaceutical industry, animal production, or the race track industry.  

    The School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences offers programs leading to a Master of Science in Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences. The program provides students with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working with distinguished faculty in state of the art facilities.  Areas of study include:

    • Dairy Management
    • Stress Physiology (Toxicology, Heat Stress)
    • Reproduction/Reproductive Endocrinology
    • Obesity/Metabolic/Nutritional Endocrinology
    • Race Track Industry

    Admissions Requirements

    For all applicants:

    • Statement of Purpose
    • 3 Letters of Recommendation
    • CV or Resume
    • English Proficiency Test (for International Students)

    For Traditional MS Program applicants:

    Prerequisite courses:

    • 3 units college-level Algebra (Calculus recommended);
    • 1 year of General Biology with laborotories 
    • 1 year of Organic Chemistry with laboratories


    Additional courses recommended:

    • Advanced courses in Animal Sciences (eg. Animal Behavior, Animal Nutrition, Meat Science)
    • Anatomy/Physiology
    • Physics
    • Analytical Chemistry & Biochemistry.


    For Race Track Industry Program applicants:

    • GMAT is required

    Funding Opportunities

    Limited numbers of Graduate Assistantships (GTA) are available through the School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences.

    • International applicants to the Main campus must currently hold a US visa that permits incidental study.
