    Description of Major

*Please Note: Face-to-face/in-person instruction of this program is available ONLY at the main campus in Tallahassee, FL. This program is NOT available via Online/Distance Learning.*

The program of study leading to a bachelor of fine arts degree (BFA) in Animation and Digital Arts combines schooling in digital motion picture production with solid grounding in liberal studies. The curriculum directs students through the program in such a way that they will begin learning the special language of digital motion picture production by making short films, culminating with a senior thesis film. Curriculum is centered on digital motion picture production, with an emphasis on story development, previsualization, directing, 3D modeling, layout, computer animation, texturing, lighting, editing, sound, film history and film theory as well as elements of live action production.

The goal of the program is to produce educated, literate, creative digital filmmakers. The BFA program will provide the curricular leadership in developing students expertise in the art and craft of digital motion picture storytelling, as well as offer training in the specialized technical skills needed to operate industry-standard computer animation platforms.

Students entering as freshmen will spend the first year working on general education requirements and then are immersed, sophomore through senior years, in Animation and Digital Arts courses. Transfer students will enter the program as sophomores and complete their degree in eight semesters, which includes two summers. Transfer applicants should complete all general education requirements before starting the program and are encouraged to consult with the academic advisor for course planning when applying.

    Entry Requirements

Complete the following items on the Application Status Check by the application deadline:

    • Complete the International School Form to tell us more about your educational curriculum.
    • Self-report all ACT and/or SAT scores.
    • Upload your essay.
    • Upload your resume/list of activities.
Once the International School Form has been submitted, additional requirements may be added to your Application Status checklist.

Applicants whose educational history has not followed a curriculum patterned after the U.S. educational system are encouraged to submit their academic records to a foreign-credential-evaluation agency for a secondary-school evaluation to include a grade-point-average calculation.

    • If your school follows a U.S. patterned curriculum, you will be asked to complete the Self-reported Student Academic Record (SSAR). To learn more about the SSAR, view our FAQ.
    • If your school follows an exam-based curriculum, you will be asked to submit official or certified copies of your exam results.
    • All other applicants should submit official or certified copies of all secondary-school records and secondary-school evaluation. All credentials from non-U.S. institutions must be evaluated before the application deadline by a foreign-credential-evaluation agency to include a U.S. equivalent grade point average. We recommend a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. All academic records should be issued in the native language and be accompanied by a certified English translation.
Certified Copy of Required Academic Records
    • All transcripts/academic records that are not in English must be accompanied by certified English translations.
    • To be considered "certified," documents should be true copies that are signed and dated by an educational official familiar with academic records. Any translated record should be literal and not an interpretive translation. Documents signed by a notary or other public official with no educational affiliation will not be accepted.
    • If the transcript/academic record does not indicate the degree earned and date the degree was awarded, separate proof of degree is required.

Applicants whose native language is not English should self-report English proficiency exam results.
