    • The programme has excellent links with industry, which offers opportunities to access industry professionals through varying means such as live briefs, panel events, portfolio reviews and/or university projects. These will vary. 
    • As part of the School of Digital Arts you will be encouraged to innovate through interdisciplinary study and collaboration to become a highly creative and employable professional to allow you to compete successfully in this rapidly growing field. 
    • You will be offered opportunities throughout the course, to contribute to the production of an animated film allowing you to develop core creative, design, narrative and cinematographic skills desired by potential employers in the animation industry.  
    • The course is designed to allow you to specialise, if you so wish, in one specialist area of the animation process allowing you to collaborate with others refining your individual artistry.
    • You can, through the production of individual films, develop an understanding of authorship, in combination with collaborative partnerships across the school, in support of directorial skills.
    • You will have access to professional creative studios containing industry standard software, hardware and making facilities supporting 2D drawn, 3D CGI and stop motion techniques. All students will be offered the opportunity to try each of these, prior to specialising.

    Entry Requirements

    You should have the Tawjihi plus a recognised foundation or diploma (from a community college) or an Intermediate Diploma/Associate Degree.

    English Program Requirements

    You need to have a recognised English language qualification to study at Manchester Metropolitan.

    The score required will vary depending on the qualification and the area of study you have chosen. If you hold an offer of a place from the University, your offer will give you the specific requirements for your course. 

    Typical International English Language Testing System (IELTS) requirements are:

    • 6.0 (no less than 5.5 in any section) or equivalent for undergraduate courses
    • 6.5 (no less than 5.5 in any section) or equivalent for postgraduate courses

Skilled talent in animation is necessary not only for high-profile animation programming and filmmaking, but also for the myriad of agencies that produce high-end animated content for gaming, marketing/advertising, e-learning, publishing, visual effects, augmented reality, architectural visualisation, heritage and gallery content production, app development, prototyping, live events, etc. There is an ever-growing demand in Manchester for this type of talent, which makes SODAs focus on future animation so timely and exciting. Our students will find multiple opportunities as animators, character designers, concept and storyboard artists, colourists, riggers, modelers, puppet makers, set designers, prop makers, producers, etc.

    How to Apply

    • 1. Apply

      Apply via UCAS

      UCAS Apply is an online application system and is suitable if you have regular access to the internet. You can apply for up to five courses. That could be five different courses at a single university or five courses at different institutions.

      UCAS Apply is offered through schools, colleges or British Council Offices if they are a registered UCAS centre. You can also make an independent application.

      Manchester Metropolitan University’s institution code is ‘M40’.

      You should ensure that this code is entered clearly on your application form, together with the code for the course you wish to apply for. Find your individual foundation year course code on our list of courses with a foundation year or find an undergraduate course code using our online prospectus.

      The deadline for UCAS applications is 6:00pm UK time on 30 June. Applications received after this date will automatically be entered into UCAS Clearing

      If you have met all of the entry requirements for your course when you applied, we can make you an unconditional offer. You can skip to the next step.

      If you are waiting for the results of further exams or language tests, we may decide to make you a conditional offer. If your offer is conditional, you must email evidence of meeting your offer conditions to our admissions team. Please refer to your offer letter for contact details.

    • 3. Pay your deposit

      If you have accepted your offer to study at Manchester Metropolitan, you must pay a tuition fee deposit to secure your place.

      The deposit is first of your tuition fee payments. It is deducted from your total tuition fees.
