    Introduction

    Anthropology, Theology and Religious Studies at Aberdeen is a great partnership, adding to your thorough grounding in what it means to ‘be human’ with deeper study of the origin, function, and meaning of religion. You will compare the major and local religious traditions of the world, with a special focus on Christian faith, life and doctrine in its historical and present day context. This programme will open up a wide range of career options, in addition to ministry.

    At a Glance

    Anthropology will give you a thorough grounding in humanity, the differences in human cultures and communities, and how they have developed. You will gain insights into human behaviours, beliefs and attitudes all over the world, exploring connections between aspects of life such as family, economics, politics and religion.

    Theology and Religious Studies deepens your study of the religious elements of anthropology, whether you are specifically interested in the Christian faith or want to explore the historical, social and political development of the world’s religions.

    Your courses will include biblical languages, the history of the church in the west, the Reformation in Scotland, the role of religion in ethical and political debates, religious aspects of disability, religious rituals and religions of the world.

    As a graduate, your skills will make you highly employable in a wide range of roles, including ministry, media and journalism, public service and administration, NGOs, business, government, publishing, education, and research.

    General Entry Requirements

    2024 Entry

    SQA Highers

    Standard: AABB

    Applicants who have achieved AABB (or better), are encouraged to apply and will be considered. Good performance in additional Highers/ Advanced Highers may be required.

    Minimum: BBB

    Applicants who have achieved BBB (or are on course to achieve this by the end of S5) are encouraged to apply and will be considered. Good performance in additional Highers/Advanced Highers will normally be required.

    Adjusted: BB

    Applicants who achieve BB over S4 and S5 and who meet one of the widening access criteria are guaranteed a conditional offer. Good performance in additional Highers/Advanced Highers will be required.

    Applicants who have achieved BB at Higher, and who meet one of the widening participation criteria above are encouraged to apply and are guaranteed an adjusted conditional offer for MA, BSc and BEng degrees.

    We would expect to issue a conditional offer asking for one additional C grade at Higher.

    Foundation Apprenticeship: One FA is equivalent to a Higher at A. It cannot replace any required subjects.
