    About

    About the course

    Reasons to study

    1. You’ll have the opportunity to undertake project work of your choice where you’ll take a hands-on approach, identifying how psychological theories actually apply to real world problems.
    2. You’ll work in collaboration with world class researchers and teachers.
    3. You’ll have the opportunity to enhance your studies by using specialist equipment in our psychology labs, including EEG machines, biopacs, an eye movement tracker and an Oculus Rift.

    Why study Applied Psychology MPsych?

This is an integrated Master's four year degree in psychology. You'll follow the undergraduate British Psychological Society accredited degree for the first three years and in your fourth year you'll move to the Master's level of study.

This course provides valuable insight into the nature of human behaviour. You'll have the opportunity to apply your psychological knowledge and undertake project work which will enhance your CV and give you the key skills that can be applied to a large number of situations, careers and further study.

What makes people behave in certain ways? What are the mental and physical processes that underlie our actions? How do we perceive and understand things? What role does the unconscious mind play in our day-to-day lives? This course gives you the flexibility to explore a wide range of topics to do with mental processes and social behaviours. Youll look at current and sometimes controversial issues by examining case studies.

As part of this Master's level study you'll:

    • Have the opportunity to engage in project work of your choice where you'll be encouraged to take a hands-on approach, identifying how psychological theories actually apply to real world problems.
    • Work in groups and individually to analyse the issues using advanced psychological techniques and knowledge, giving you the opportunity to build your communication skills, assertiveness and presentation techniques, all of which are useful in many careers and professions.
    • Work in collaboration with world class researchers and teachers.
    • Carry out your own research as well as working with existing data.
    • Learn to generate professional level reports, which will form part of a portfolio where you can use to demonstrate your advanced skills and knowledge.
    • Youll be able to take advantage of excellent facilities to enhance your studies, including our EEG system which monitors brain activity, our eye tracker, biopsychological testing systems and a specialist polygraph (lie-detector machine).
