    About

Scientific Illustration is a visual medium combining biological and medical illustration for the purposes of education and communication between scientists and authors, teachers and students, or physicians and patients.

The Scientific Illustration major at the University of Georgia encourages student artists to develop a level of awareness that communicates visual information in a logical message or sequence that is not confusing to a viewer.  Courses are available in digital imagery, graphic design, figure drawing, environmental graphics, color technique, and others.

Employment opportunities range from working alone to being a member of a large production unit in universities, medical schools, scientific and medical research centers, hospitals, clinics, dental and veterinary schools, and museums of scientific history and learning such as the Smithsonian.  Many illustrators pursue 'self contract' commercial markets, creating illustrations for publishing, pharmaceuticals, advertising, or physician and attorney clients in need of visual aids.

    How to Apply

UGA supports two different application platforms for First-Year applications. Students should only submit one of these applications. We do not prefer any particular application platform, so please select the option that works best for you and your school counselor. While we are still members of the Coalition for College, we will not be accepting applications on that platform for students applying for Fall 2023.
