    About

The AB in Interdisciplinary Art and Design program (formerly the AB in Studio Art) exposed to a variety of media and techniques across the studio art disciplines, yet have the flexibility to build a more interdisciplinary degree program with more elective coursework outside of Art. Students pursuing the AB will understand the non-verbal language of art and design in terms of artistic principles and application, will be able to organize visual elements both rationally and intuitively according to understood artistic principles, and will become familiar with the major achievements in the history of art and visual culture. The program requires 27 hours in studio art beyond the Studio Art Core coursework (Area VI of the core curriculum) that must be completed by all students wishing to pursue the AB in Studio Art.

Thus, the AB in Studio Art major requires a total of 42 hours of studio art and design courses. In addition to ARHI 2400, Art History II: Baroque to Modern, students must take six (6) hours of art history coursework. Required electives include a literature course and a foreign language through level three. The AB program in Studio Art is intended for students who want more flexibility in building an interdisciplinary degree program with increased choice in their academic and elective courses over a wider range of disciplines and offerings than is afforded by the BFA programs in Art and Design.

    How to Apply

UGA supports two different application platforms for First-Year applications. Students should only submit one of these applications. We do not prefer any particular application platform, so please select the option that works best for you and your school counselor. While we are still members of the Coalition for College, we will not be accepting applications on that platform for students applying for Fall 2023.
