    University of Galway offers two exciting programme options dedicated to Children Studies:

    • Arts with Childrens Studies (AWC)
    • Arts in Childrens Studies (ACS)

    After selecting GY110 on your CAO form, you will also be asked to select the stream (the programme) that you are applying to (AWC or ACS), Read more about each programme option belo.

    Arts (Arts with Children's Studies) - AWC

    A four year arts degree that offers the ability to study two general arts subjects to degree level, in addition to specialising in Childrens Studies. Ideal for those with a genuine desire to study other arts subjects, and those looking to pursue post-primary teaching.

    Arts (Children's Studies) - ACS

    A four year arts degree in Childrens Studies that offers the option of also studying one modern language. Interdisciplinary, including work in the community in seven of eight semesters, and a half year or full year placement in Ireland or abroad.

    Entry Requirements

    Minimum Grade H5 in two subjects and passes in four other subjects at O6/H7 level in the Leaving Certificate including Irish, English, another language, and three other subjects recognised for entry purposes.


    Additional Requirements

    Students must satisfy the Garda/police vetting requirements.

    Important CAO dates to remember:

    There are three closing dates for applications.

    • Normal application: 1 February.
    • Late applications: 1 May (Late applications may NOT be made by those applying on 1 or for entry to Medicine).
    • Change of mind: 1 July.

    If you are submitting a non-standard application (an entry on page three of the application form), you should submit it to the CAO Office  by the 1 February.
