Astronomy and Physics

Offered by the Physics and Astronomy department.

A galaxy. A solar system. A particle. The interdisciplinary astronomy and physics major explores a world of information, from the universe and solar system to ancient astronomies, astrobiology and astrophysics. If you’re looking to understand astronomy on a deeper level—more than what you’d find in a minor—this program is ideal. Also, since it provides the physics foundation required to study engineering, this major pairs well with our 3+2 dual-degree program, which allows you to earn a bachelor of arts from Wheaton and a bachelor’s in engineering at a participating school.

1. The Common Application. Please refer to the Common App Ready Toolkit for helpful instructions and advice about completing your Common Application.
   If you encounter technical questions or problems using the Common Application, please contact Common Application support team or utilize the Help option on each page of the Common App.
2. The School Report. Ask your high school college advisor to submit the Common Applications School Report form.
3. An official and complete copy of your secondary school transcript or mark sheets listing courses and grades must be included with the School Report. An English translation of all transcripts that are not in English is also required. Official copies of test results of any government or centrally administered national or international examinations should be included.These may include, for example:
   • GCSE/IGCSE
   • Advanced Level or Predicted Advanced Level
   • O Level and A Level
   • International Baccalaureate (IB) or predicted IB
   • ICSE/ISC, CBSE
   • Arbitur
   • French Baccalaureate
4. An official Mid-Year Report and transcript, showing grades from the first semester or trimester, must be submitted by your counselor as soon as they are available.
5. Counselor Recommendation. Ask your counselor to write a letter of recommendation.
6. Teacher Recommendation. Ask at least one teacher to write a letter of recommendation. Recommendations should be from a teacher who has taught you in an academic subject within the last two years.
7. All applicants who are not US citizens or permanent residents (green card) MUST submit the International Student Certification of Finances form (located on the Student Financial Services Forms and Resources page), regardless of where they are living or current US visa type.
