    Aviation Technology - Professional Pilot

    About

    The aviation technology - professional pilot degree is designed for students who intend to pursue a career as an airline pilot, plan to fly for charter, commuter, or corporate airlines, or who wish to operate their own aviation-related business.

    During freshman and sophomore years, students complete courses that develop general flying skills and provide a background in aviation. During junior and senior years, students spend the majority of time focused on improving flight skills and preparing for careers by taking courses in commercial certification, airline management, aviation law, and more. Over the course of their studies, students will complete approximately 250 to 300 hours of flight time.


    Emphases:

    • Fixed Wing: This emphasis focuses on receiving flight training in fixed wing aircraft. Students will train in Diamond DA-40s and DA-42s, Piper Arrows, and a Cessna 152. Students will also spend time training in a Red Bird simulator, and a CRJ-700 simulator.
    • Rotorcraft: This emphasis focuses on receiving flight training in rotorcraft. Students will train in R22 Beta II, R44 Raven II, and a flight training simulator. Possible career paths could include scenic tours, EMS, aerial firefighting, wildlife study, and more.

    Bachelor Degree Minimum Requirements

    Admission to USU is test optional for Spring 2022, Summer 2022, and Fall 2022. ACT/SAT test scores will still be considered if submitted.

    • 2.8-4.0 GPA - Admitted in Good Standing
      • Students with less than a 2.8 high school GPA may still be admitted in good standing based upon the combination of their GPA and ACT/SAT score. See if you qualify.
    • 2.79 GPA & below - Considered for Earned Admission path.
    Associate Degree Minimum Requirements

    Most USU Eastern and USU Blanding Associates Degrees and Certificates are open enrollment and do not require a minimum high school GPA or ACT/SAT score.

    Recommended High School Prep Work
    • 4 years of English
    • 4 years of Math (One class beyond math 3)
    • 3.5 years of Social Science
    • 3 years of Lab-Based Science (one each: biology, chemistry, and physics)
    • 2 years of a world language (same language, taken progressively during grades 9-12)

    English Program Requirements

    To provide a foundation for academic success, USU requires all undergraduate international students to demonstrate a high level of English language proficiency. The English language proficiency may be demonstrated by meeting one of the following. Students must ask the testing agency to send official exam scores to Utah State University (USU).
