    About

    The BA History of Art (Asia, Africa and Europe) is the only degree in the UK to combine the specialist study of Asian, African and European art history. It is taught jointly by the Department of the History of Art and Archaeology at SOAS and the History of Art department at UCL. Students select courses from each institution. They receive theoretical and methodological training, which is combined with the study of particular regions, themes and critical issues.The History of Art and Archaeology department at SOAS contains some of the worlds leading experts in Asian and African art history and archaeology, whose ground-breaking research informs and is informed by their teaching. Students benefit from the unparalleled knowledge and enthusiasm of staff. As members of the School of Arts, they profit from the insights of scholars and students studying the Music, Film and Media of Asia, Africa and the Middle East in historical and contemporary contexts. They can also select from courses in other departments, taking advantage of SOASs unrivalled expertise in the languages, history, religions and cultures of Asia and Africa.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Students who have completed the International Baccalaureate, A-Levels or AP examinations will be considered for direct entry to undergraduate programmes.

    Applicants from Jordan who have completed the Thanawiyah Certificate of General Secondary Education will be required to complete a Foundation Year before applying for undergraduate study.

    English Program Requirements

    All international applicants must be able to show that their English is of a high enough standard to successfully engage with and complete their course at SOAS. If you have not yet taken an English language test, you can still apply for your degree, but we will include evidence of language requirements as part of your offer conditions. You can demonstrate English language ability in several ways.

    How to Apply

    Making an application

    Applications for an undergraduate degree at SOAS are made through UCAS. This includes those wishing to transfer from other universities. Fees applicable.

    You can apply for up to 5 choices of courses on the UCAS form. You do not have to use up all 5 and the combination of choices should reflect what or where you wish to study. You might pick 5 different courses at the same university or the same course at 5 different universities, the decision is yours.

    Interviews

    Once an application has been submitted, next steps depend on the university who notify UCAS of their decision. At SOAS an offer is made based solely on the UCAS application form, we do not interview candidates.

    Level of English language required

    SOAS students are required to have a sufficient standard of English to study effectively. Overseas students are required to submit evidence, during the application process, of their current level of proficiency.
