    About

    Current industry requirement of graduates is that not only are they able to manage business processes, but continuously identify opportunities, solve problems and develop growth avenues. This course will equip students for a future career in events management. In addition to business acumen, the course aims to develop valuable and transferable skills and knowledge in events management, planning, opportunity development, creative thinking and organisation. This course focuses on the development of essential skills in management, research, organisation and events. These skills are much sought after by employers in an increasingly competitive environment.

    This course runs for a single season and enables students with level 5 pre-requisite qualifications to top up to a full BA degree award with honours. The Course comprises six modules, each of which has an academic value of 20 credits. These modules include the following (note that there are no optional modules in this course):

    • Applied Management
    • Business Research: Principles and Practice
    • Business Strategy
    • Business Ethics and Sustainability
    • Applied Events Planning
    • Live Event (Project)

     

    Applied Management

    This comprehensive module addresses many facets of management practice and aims to provide the students with the knowledge and skills necessary to embark on a career in middle management.

    Business Research: Principles and Practice

    This module equips students with the knowledge and skills required to undertake a research project. Students will therefore be introduced to the tools and techniques they will need to conduct a real investigation into a business problem.

    Business Strategy

    This module aims to develop a conceptual and critical understanding of the internal and external factors that affect the development of a business strategy within an organisation.

    Business Ethics and Sustainability

    This module introduces students to the particular problems and opportunities experienced in adopting or ignoring business ethics and corporate social responsibility. The module also aims to develop a critical understanding of sustainable business issues and how they can be managed, promoted and developed in a business context.

    Applied Events Planning

    Students will learn how to plan for a live event.  This activity includes feasibility planning, marketing, operations, finances, choice of venue, negotiation, etc. Note that the development of these management and organisational skills are transferable and attractive to employers.

    Live Event (Project)

    Students will plan, manage and deliver a live event. From conceptualisation to evaluation, the student will engage in hands-on organisation thereby engaging in experiential learning and reflective practice.

    Teaching

    The course is delivered as a blended approach with a balanced mix of face-to-face and online learning activity. 

    The course includes a field visit to a real organisation that promotes experiential learning opportunities.

    Students will be expected to fully engage with the course and attend lectures, workshops and tutorials.

    All lecturers on this course operates an open door policy.  In most cases, there is no need to book an appointment to meet a lecturer unless they are particularly busy at the time, they will meet you there and then.

    Assessment

    The assessment process is varied in order to enhance learning potential and includes portfolios, essays, presentations and reports.  

    There are no formal examinations in this course.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Successful completion of a HND in Business Studies or Business & Accounting, a Foundation Degree in Business Studies, Service Sector Management or Retail Management, or an equivalent qualification e.g. a Diploma in Higher Education or ILM Leadership and Management (Level 5).
     
    Consideration will be made on an individual basis for alternative qualifications and/or relevant experience providing students can demonstrate sufficient related knowledge and understanding to equip them for level 6 study in a business discipline. Applicants will need to demonstrate 240 credits (or equivalent) and the Universitys Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy may feature in the decision to offer a place on the course. 



    For international students, information can be found on the Universitys website and international applicants will need to have achieved an overall IELTS grade of 6.0 with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component.

    Career

    The graduate can seek employment in the events industry in particular. This can often satisfy their personal interests especially in the arts (e.g. music festivals, theatre, etc.).
