    About

    Your profile:

You are passionate about shaping and transforming peoples lives through education. You will be passionate about creating safe, inclusive and exciting learning environments. You will want to be a strong advocate for those that you work with and uphold high standards of professional practice whilst not being afraid to challenge the status quo. You will want to make a difference.

You may already be working or volunteering in a school as support staff. Perhaps you are running sports coaching sessions or a forest school leader. You might be contemplating your next steps after leaving 6th form, or you might be mid-career and want to focus on a change of direction with education. There really is no one profile of our learners, we embrace the diversity of our learners backgrounds and their personal aspirations.

    Your Subject:

The term education encompasses a breadth of opportunities for our learners. In the UK, there are over 33,000 educational settings, made up of nurseries, schools, independent schools, alternative provisions, further education colleges and higher education institutions. These are supporting over 15million school pupils and adult learners. The opportunities an Education Degree provides is immense. Educational support is not just through teaching, it extends to educational psychology, supporting learners with SEND, interdisciplinary support, and pastoral and mental health support. Beyond traditional educational settings, a holistic understanding of education presents opportunities that arise for example in educational policy setting, museum education, corporate learning and development, as well as designing innovative curriculum through enhanced by educational technologies.

    Your Course:

This interdisciplinary degree programme presents exciting opportunities to critically engage with ways of knowing and understanding; whilst analysing underpinning cultural, societal, technological, political, historical and economic contexts that relate to education. The programme provides the backbone to understanding what education is and what the role of an educator is. As you progress through the programme, you are able to start to tailor your work to areas of personal focus, culminating in your final dissertation.

We will help you to transform both personally and professionally through a creative, inspirational, critical and inquisitive culture that is fostered throughout. Throughout, employability skills are embedded with the programme and professional practice is considered. Strong links with teacher training providers have been forged for students wishing to complete their training to become teachers.

A wide range of enrichment activities are provided to support your learning outside of the modules, working with students both within our programme and across our School. We are also able to provide guidance for support if you need to resit any GCSEs required for teacher training.

Like our students, our teaching team is diverse, all have professional experience across educational professions yet we all have the collective goal in our commitment to inspire, educate and support you throughout this programme.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    • You must provide evidence of having been in general education for at least 10 years and of having studied within the last five years
    • a face-to-face interview is required before an offer is made.

Entry requirements are generally given as GSCE and A Levels. These are the UK standard qualifications that are awarded at the end of a student’s time at school or college, and your country may have equivalent qualifications that can be used to support your application. You must be a minimum age of 16 or over to apply for one of our courses. Check the course finder for the exact qualification for each course.

When you search for courses, don’t worry if the entry requirements don’t specify your qualifications – we can accept alternative equivalent qualifications for many of our courses. We are happy to consider qualifications from other countries for entry onto our courses and an assessment will be made of their equivalence to our UK qualifications.

    English Program Requirements

To ensure that all students have the best chance of succeeding, students at the start of the course must meet the entry requirement for the course and have a minimum level of English Language ability. We require an IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent for Further Education and IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent for Higher Education courses. English Language support is provided while you are following your main course of study. For overseas fee payers this language support is included in the tuition fee.

    Career

Your qualification progresses throughout the three years, starting with a Certificate of Education, to a Diploma in Higher Education and then a full BA (Hons). Progression routes include teaching training or Masters level study, whereby we will support you with the application process of these. Additional opportunities include: education in hospitals, prisons, working with SEND, educational psychology, working in youth justice, sports education, forest schools, policy making, non-governmental organisations, international educational programmes, play therapy, learning and development, designing educational technology, museum educators, pastoral and mental health support…the list is endless! Most importantly, you do not have to be restricted to any particular career from the outset, this is your opportunity for self-discovery and establish your own direction.
