    About

    Equality, diversity, and inclusion are key to the future of our society and the workplace. Students develop knowledge of literary history and develop key analytical and research skills. While also learning to understand legal frameworks, social theory, and acquiring a unique skillset, this course allows students to pursue careers in diverse and inclusive leadership, and to become advocates for positive change in society. This programme also provides students with the opportunity to study abroad through the Erasmus Programme with our partners; Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), Université Reims & Université Rennes 2. In Years 3 the second term is devoted to work industry placement or study abroad. Spotlight Session Watch our English + Equality Studies Spotlight Session What will I do? Study a range of literary works, looking at their history, genre and themes Critically examine the history of equality in law and society Investigate the social, cultural and economic dimensions of society in Ireland and the wider world Explore the relationship between representation, culture and politics. Develop effective critical and analytical thinking and writing skills Gain comprehensive knowledge on legal frameworks that provide the foundation to employment in the field of law and justice Acquire transferable skills in research methods, methodology and practice Through discussion and debate, learn how to articulate a well-informed and independent argument Examine what equality, diversity and inclusion mean in today’s culture and workplaces Refine your writing and communication skills Hear from our lecturers What will I be able to do when I graduate? Graduates will be able to pursue a variety of careers ranging from politics, journalism, law, human rights as well as human resources. Graduates will also find opportunities in equality, diversity, inclusion, policy development and advocacy in governmental institutions as well as non-governmental organisations (including the charitable sector and international development agencies). Graduates will be eligible to apply for Masters in Education courses to become English teachers, as well as other fields of graduate scholarship including: literature, philosophy, law, sociology, sustainability, governance, politics and equality studies.     A unique opportunity to investigate issues of social justice, equal rights, literature and law. This fascinating degree explores issues around identity, race, ethnicity, disability, gender and sexuality, as well as ideas of society, identity and Irishness, identity politics, and social theory.
