    In the arts stream of this combined degree you can tailor your studies around your interests, creating unique combinations of majors and minors. While studying your undergraduate degree, youll also be building your foundation knowledge that will take you into your postgraduate studies. Choose from relevant arts disciplines that will form your teaching specialisations, including:

    • dance
    • drama
    • English
    • history
    • Languages other than English (LOTE)
    • media
    • Studies of society and environment (Humanities)
    • visual arts.

    Deakin's Professional Experience Program is a key part of your postgraduate course, ensuring you have the practical skills needed from day one of your teaching career. Working with more than 1400 schools across Australia, we will arrange at least 60 days of placements for you in schools where you will learn from experienced teachers. You will also have access to specialised teaching spaces on campus to prepare for teaching.

    You can also add a global perspective to your degree by undertaking a study tour, internationally focused internship in Australia or overseas, language study, or longer study abroad exchange experience*.

    Before beginning your Master of Teaching (Secondary), prospective education students need to successfully complete the Casper test – an online, video scenario-based test that lets you demonstrate your suitability for a teaching career.

    Entry Requirements

    Complete foundation studies and/or a diploma program at Deakin College or at one of Deakin's TAFE partners.

    English Program Requirements

    All students must be able to prove that they can meet our English language requirements. Our English language requirements are divided into five bands – from Band A through to Band E. These Bands indicate the level of English required to undertake the course, with Band E representing the highest English skill level required.

    You will be able to provide evidence of your English language skills if you have:

    • completed an English language test such as IELTS, Pearson, TOEFL or Cambridge
      • Applicants who are unable to sit standard tests due to public health concerns relating to the COVID-19 pandemic can complete an online English language test such as IELTS Indicator, OET@Home, TOEFL Special Home Edition.
    • completed some types of university (tertiary) or high-school (secondary) studies
    • completed an approved English subject in IB Diploma, Australian Year 12 or other high school qualifications
    • lived and worked in an English speaking country for at least five years.
