The 3+2 Secondary or K-12 Licensure program allows you to earn a bachelorâ€™s degree in your major with an emphasis in Secondary or K-12 Licensure and a Master of Arts in Education in five years. This program provides a combination of foundational knowledge and hands-on experience to ensure that you are well-prepared to thrive professionally in any academic setting. You can choose an undergraduate program in one of 11 majors (Art, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English, Exercise Sport Science [Physical Education], Geology, History, Mathematics, Politics & Government, or Spanish) and pair it with a Masters of Arts in Education emphasizing in Teacher Leadership, or K-12 Online Leadership. The Teacher Leadership degree program will help you become an excellent educator who is recognized for your leadership skills and capacity. Youâ€™ll gain the skills to facilitate, advocate and advance school reform and the overall improvement of student learning. The K-12 Online Leadership degree path prepares you to provide professional guidance to virtual or brick and mortar schools on effective curriculum, instruction and assessment programs in relation to online and blended learning. A well-rounded education This program provides a combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice to develop educators who are well-prepared to take on a variety of academic environments after their time at Western.

Entry Requirements

To be considered for graduate programs at Western, you must hold the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree. You must have earned the degree at an institution recognized and approved to award such credentials. Western does not admit international students as non-degree-seeking students.

International graduate students seeking admission to any of Western’s graduate programs must submit an online application, official degree-conferring university transcript(s) or an official course-by-course credential evaluation, and specific program requirements. All documents in a language other than English must be accompanied by certified English translations.

English Program Requirements

Request your official TOEFL, IELTS, ACT and/or SAT exam scores to be sent to Western. See below for TOEFL and IELTS requirements.

For 2022 semesters, ACT/SAT are optional. However, international students must still provide proof of English proficiency via the TOEFL or IELTS.

Complete Western’s Online Application or the Common Application.
Request your official high school transcript to be sent to Western. Your official transcript can be mailed, faxed, emailed or sent through an electronic service (Parchment, Naviance, e-scrip, etc.)
Submit the $30 application fee. This can be paid online with the application or by calling the Cashier’s Office at 970.943.3003.
Optional for 2022 semesters: Send your official ACT and/or SAT test scores to Western (ACT code: 0536, SAT code: 4946).

If you are submitting an application via the Common Application, self-reported information on the Common Application must be verified by official high school transcript(s) and ACT and/or SAT scores for a student to be considered for admission at Western. Please arrange to have those official documents sent to Western’s Admissions Office.
