    Bachelor of Business – Sports Management

    About

    Be part of the future of sport.

    Become a key player in sport and join a multibillion dollar industry. In this unique course, you will learn how to manage sporting clubs and facilities, organise events, run sport organisations and develop community initiatives that promote healthy living.

    Taught by skilled experts in the field, this degree gives you an understanding of the financial, administrative and legal aspects of sports management. You’ll learn to analyse data to stay ahead of the game and graduate feeling workforce ready.

    Your assignments are based on Swinburne research with partners such as Richmond Football Club, the Australian Football League, Tennis Australia, as well as government, agencies and sport technology start-ups. Gain hands-on experience in your Industry Consulting Project, where you will work on a project for a real client, and make industry connections in our internship program.

    The Bachelor of Business – Sports Management is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International, and is a part of the five per cent of business schools worldwide accredited by AACSB.

    • Sports Marketing: Learn how marketing can position your sporting club, organisation or brand for success in the highly competitive sport market.
    • Facility Management: Learn how to manage the operational aspects of a sporting and recreational facility including staffing, organisational structure and risk management.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Non-Year 12 entry

    Completion or partial completion of an approved tertiary qualification (including diplomas, advanced diplomas, associate degrees and degrees). Additional performance criteria and prerequisite requirements may also apply.

    Applicants without a formal qualification but with significant and relevant work experience and appropriate English language skills, or a suitable Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) result, will be considered. All students need to demonstrate that they can undertake the course with a reasonable prospect of success.

    Year 12 entry

    Successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or its equivalent, such as an interstate or international Year 12 qualification. Minimum ATAR requirements may apply.

    VCE prerequisites: Units 3 and 4: a minimum study score of 25 in English (or equivalent) or 30 in English (EAL).

    Credit arrangements

    Credit transfer

    Credit is granted in recognition of previous study and/or experience and allows students to gain advanced standing towards their course. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Speak to a Course Consultant about applying for credit.

    Applicants who have completed a Diploma in a related discipline may be eligible for credit of up to 8 units; the equivalent of a third of the course. Students admitted to the course with prior tertiary studies that satisfy part of the academic requirements of this course may be eligible for academic credit of up to 16 units.

    Recognition of Prior Learning

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows students to gain credit (advanced standing) towards their course in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Speak to a Course Consultant about applying for RPL.

    Diploma entry pathways

    Pathways allow students to progress from one qualification to another where the first course is recognised as an entry requirement and provides advanced standing to the second.

    Credit available may vary depending on the major selected within any given degree but in most instances you may receive up to 8 unit credits.

    International students are required to demonstrate their English proficiency before enrolling into a Swinburne Online degree by undertaking one of the following English language tests; The International English Language Test Score (IELTS) or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score.

    Sports Operations Manager

    Take a lead role in the management of clubs and sporting facilities. Develop and implement plans, while managing cost and negotiating with suppliers to maximise efficiencies.

    Sports Media and Marketing Manager

    You’ll have two key goals as a marketing manager in the sports world: to attract new fans and business sponsors. You’ll develop marketing campaigns designed to support your organisation or company.

    Partnership and Sponsorship Manager

    Your main objective is to craft strategic partnerships & secure new sponsors, whilst maintaining excellent relationships with your existing sponsors. You’ll be a valued member of the team, helping to fund teams, stadiums and community events.

    Events Coordinator

    In this exciting role, you’ll pull together small and large scale events for your organisation. You’ll plan events, communicate with stakeholders and ensure events will run smoothly.

    Team Manager

    Oversee your team and its’ development. You’ll establish goals, maintain key values and motivate great performance.

    Business Development Manager

    Your role is all about the future – new customers, new markets, new products and new processes. You’ll plan and strategise development, helping your company to reach their business goals.
