    About

    Learn from writing and publishing industry leaders and fast track your creative career. Professional writing skills are in high demand across the creative industries, and this degree will help prepare you for employment in a diverse and fast-paced creative economy. You don't need a desire to become an author, the portable writing skills you'll gain could lead you to a career in editing and publishing, digital media, advertising and marketing, festivals and events, and more. Taught by professional writers and with close links to industry, this degree will maximise your opportunities upon graduation. This degree is delivered in partnership with Mighty Kingdom and Writers SA.

    • Study diverse genres and forms (romance, sci-fi, fantasy, literary, etc; series, novels, short stories, etc)
    • Be taught by award-winning/best-selling writers who are prominent in their fields and highly experienced in the publishing industry
    • Experience a strong sense of community within each creative writing cohort
    • Benefit from close ties to other creative cohorts (visual media, drama, film etc)
    • Use your degree to transfer to the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Creative Writing) in your second or third year of study.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    The minimum entry requirement is comparable to an ATAR of 65, please note that some Flinders programs require higher than a comparable ATAR of 65. For further information please see the individual requirements for programs on the course listings.

    Prerequisite subject requirements

    Credit for previous university studies is granted at the discretion of the faculty that administers a chosen course. If you are seeking credit or exemption you will need to provide detailed subject outlines of studies completed.

    If you do not meet the necessary academic requirements you may enrol in a Foundation Program at Flinders International Study Centre (FISC).

     

    English Program Requirements

    If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.

    You will graduate with the skills required to write creatively and/or commercially. Writers are commonly perceived as being self-employed, but many find employment in government, media, and for non-writing arts organisations. Writing well is an ability sought after across all art-forms and industries.
