    About this Course

    Stories are fundamental to an enriching human

    experience;

    they don’t just entertain us, they also help us make sense of ourselves and the world around us. Writers tell stories, and so storytelling is an essential skill that lies at the heart of our course.

    Here, you’ll develop your awareness of and attention to voice, style, character, dialogue, empathy and influence, while being introduced to writing techniques for a variety of forms, including fiction, non-fiction, poetry and dramatic scripts.

    You’ll also explore the commercial realities of creative writing and publishing.

    Admission requirements you'll need to meet for this course.

    • Academic Admission requirements (Band 3)

      All applicants must meet the academic admission requirements for this course. The indicative or guaranteed ATAR is as published (where applicable) or academic admission requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

      • AQF Cert IV;
      • Successfully completed 0.25 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent);
      • Undergraduate Certificate;
      • Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test;*
      • University Preparation Course;*
      • Indigenous University Orientation Course; or*
      • Experience Based Entry Scheme.*

    English Program Requirements

  • English Language requirements (Band 3)

    English competency requirements may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:

    • Year 12 English ATAR/English Literature ATAR grade C or better or equivalent;
    • Special Tertiary Admissions Test;*
    • IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6.0);
    • Successfully completed 1.0 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher in the UK, Ireland, USA, NZ or Canada;
    • University Preparation Course;
    • Indigenous University Orientation Course;*
    • AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree;
    • Successfully completed 0.375 EFTSL of study at bachelor level or higher at an Australian higher education provider (or equivalent); or
    • Other tests, courses or programs defined on the English Proficiency Bands page.

It’s why this course covers a wide range of fields that require knowledge and skills applicable to creative writing – some you may never have thought of! So, you can translate your creative writing skills into fields like writing web content, marketing, advertising and internal company communications. As many authors freelance or are self-employed, the course will introduce you to the entrepreneurial skills needed to promote your work and earn income from creative writing.
