Become a confident and qualified early childhood teacher with Federation University.

You may be working in the early childhood field and want to upskill straight out of school or changing careers. You will discover how young children learn and how you can develop and support their learnings in these critical early years. This is a hands-on course that will get you into the classroom for a minimum of 80 days of supervised teaching placement so you can put into practice what you have learnt. You will develop the skills to teach in a variety of early education settings which may include kindergartens pre-schools and long day care centres including those in special needs settings.

A range of scholarships from the Victorian Department of Education and Training are available to help support your dream of a becoming an early childhood teacher especially if you’re a regional student.

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is a pathway into the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education). You may receive 1 year of credit (120 credit points) through this pathway.

Academic Entry Requirements

English language requirement

Overall Academic IELTS band score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0

Extra Requirements

Equivalent English language test or Successful completion of a relevant Australian diploma within the past two years with the proviso that students must prove they meet the English language requirement as determined by Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) to be eligible for registration.

A study score of 35 in any Business Economics or any Information Technology equals 3 aggregate points per study. Overall maximum of 5 points

Federation University accepts a variety of English language tests as proof of English proficiency. English proficiency assessment should be made using an external English test (Academic IELTS or equivalent) with the results determining whether the student can enter into our programs directly or via an appropriate English program.

From 1 July 2016 direct entry without an external English test will be only permitted when student meets the English exemption requirements described on the Federation English language requirements page as per the Simplified Student Visa Framework’s English requirements.

International students currently studying VCE in Victoria (Australia) are required to apply through VTAC.

All other international students applying for undergraduate postgraduate coursework and higher degrees by Research can apply now directly to Federation University using our online application system (StudyLink).
