Entry requirements

Subject pre-requisites: English (Units 3 & 4, C); General Maths, Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Maths (Units 3 & 4, C); or equivalent.

Note: You must be able to meet the physical and other professional requirements of professional experience placements in Australian schools within this degree.

There are inherent requirements that must be met in order to successfully complete this degree. Inherent requirements are fundamental skills, capabilities and knowledge that students must be able to demonstrate in order to achieve the essential learning outcomes of the degree, while maintaining the academic integrity of the degree. Please read and understand the inherent requirements specific to the Bachelor of Education (Primary) before applying.

English language requirements

To meet the English language requirements for this degree, we accept the combined level and duration of study specified below, or the minimum English language proficiency scores from one of the following tests. Your test must be completed within two years of applying to UniSQ.

Tertiary study (Diploma level or higher)	3+ years full-time tertiary study in a country from the Accepted English-speaking countries list.
IELTS (Academic)	Minimum overall score of 7.5, with a minimum of 8.0 in speaking and listening, and a minimum of 7.0 in reading and writing.
International Second Language Proficiency Ratings (ISLPR)	A rating of at least 4 in each of the skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Please note that the assessment must be completed at an approved testing site.
Professional English Assessment for Teachers (PEAT)	Assessment of A in all four areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

If you have a current Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) provisional or full registration you automatically meet the English language requirements for this degree.

Teacher registration is the responsibility of jurisdictional authorities and the specifications for English Language requirements are set out under the relevant regulatory schemes.

English Program Requirements

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows students to gain credit (advanced standing) towards their course in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

As a registered teacher, you will have the skills and experience required to teach students in P-6 classrooms. You will have many opportunities to work in metropolitan, rural and remote and international schools.
Teaching offers a lot of flexibility and diversity, with graduates gaining employment in settings such as hospital schools and international schools.
Teaching skills are also in demand in other areas, including roles with human services, community-based government organisations and recreation and tourism industries.
