About this course

The Bachelor of Engineering Honours and Bachelor of Science (Medical Science) combined degree will develop your engineering expertise alongside the critical insights and research skills offered by the sciences.

It will emphasise the strong scientific foundations of engineering and expand your career options by giving you two qualifications with just one extra year of study.

In this program you can combine any of the engineering streams (Aeronautical, Biomedical, Chemical and Biomolecular, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic, Software and Space) with a Bachelor of Science (Medical Science). You will gain technical expertise alongside analytical and research skills to lead innovation across continually evolving industries. In addition to your engineering stream, you will also gain foundational knowledge and research skills in medical science, biomedicine and bioinformatics.

As part of your engineering degree you will undertake the award-winning Professional Engagement Program enabling you to change your approach to learning through self-reflection and extra-curricular activities throughout your degree.

Complementing your engineering studies, the Bachelor of Science (Medical Science) provides an essential foundation in the structure and function of the human body, from molecules through to whole systems. Core units will ensure you develop a breadth of knowledge across fields such as anatomy, cellular and molecular biochemistry, human physiology, immunobiology, infectious diseases, pharmacology and microbiology, and you will have the opportunity to specialise in senior units.

Important information for students commencing in 2021

As part of our continual effort to improve our academic offering, we are making some exciting changes to the Bachelor of Engineering Honours.

What’s changing?

Taking effect Semester 1, 2021, students in the Bachelor Engineering Honours will undertake enhanced foundation studies in data and computation, and a sequence of real-world project units throughout their degree, which will enable them to apply technical knowledge in practice.

Why are we changing?

The future of work is increasingly dynamic and digital. These changes have been made in response to the rapid advancements in computational tools and the utilisation of rich data in engineering practice. They will ensure our students continue to graduate job-ready and at the forefront of engineering innovation.

What does this mean in practice?

Degree and stream names will remain unchanged, however, from 2021, specialisations will replace majors. We have created a number of new exciting specialisations to choose from. There is however, no change to the graduate outcomes or to the duration of the degree.

Entry Requirements

Admission this course is on the basis of the following criteria:

a secondary education qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents), or approved higher education study, including approved preparation courses.
English language requirements where these are not demonstrated by sufficient qualifications taught in English.

Admission pathways are open to domestic applicants on the basis of equity or other adjustment factors, including for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants. For details, visit admission pathways.

have completed a recognised tertiary qualification. Details can be found on the specific course page and could include previous study in the same field, or an advertised minimum GPA.

Apply through an authorised agent

Apply through UAC

You will need to apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC), if you are an undergraduate student studying:

a current Australian Year 12 qualification (eg NSW Higher School Certificate) in or outside Australia, or
a current International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma in Australia.

If you are applying with the New Zealand National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA Level 3), you may apply via UAC or direct to the University.

Apply for Sciences Po Dual Degree

If you are applying for a Sciences Po Dual Degree, you need to apply directly to the University of Sydney (even if you are applying through UAC for your other preferences).
