    About

    Overview

    • Be a part of a team solving real industry problems, from pioneering new eco-materials, pushing the frontiers in aerospace, renewable energy implementation, and development of smart robotics.
    • Guided by UniSQ’s team of leading academics, develop skills to optimise the performance of smart systems across a vast range of industry, including manufacturing, transportation, aerospace, health/medical (biotech), mining, agriculture, government, start-up (entrepreneurship), and robotics (autonomous systems).
    • Our Mechatronics degree explores a combination of mechanical, electrical, control, and software disciplines to develop smarter machines, devices, and processes. It will build your passion for solving hands-on problems, interacting with physical systems, learning to prototype and customise for optimal performance.
    • Be inspired by students before you, producing research projects such as using LEGO in recovery of stroke victims, optimising autonomous weed detection and control, designing a force feedback system for use in direct human to machine interfacing, and asset monitoring using machine vision and sensory in mobile robots.
    • Graduate ready for the most cutting-edge jobs of the future, with the practical skills to integrate state-of-the-art technology and robotics to transform tomorrow’s economy well into the future.
    • You’ll work with practicing engineers as mentors in project-based learning courses. If you’re already working in the industry, you can bring your own work to use as student co-designed assessments.
    • Choose to fast-track through the degree by enrolling full-time in courses in every study period, spread a part-time course load across the full year, or keep a trimester free for work experience or personal commitments.

We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.

Students who do not meet the necessary knowledge for Mathematical Methods can choose to study UniSQ Ready courses, as recommended on the assumed knowledge webpage, or enrol in ENM1500 Introductory Engineering Mathematics as one of their elective courses.

    • Recommended prior study: Physics (Units 3 & 4, C), or equivalent

    English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. UniSQ also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

If you don't meet the English language requirements, you can apply to study with our English language partner, the Union Institute of Language (UIL), or if you're a domestic student you can apply to study UniSQ Ready courses TPP0122 and TPP0123.

    Inherent requirements

There are inherent requirements that must be met in order to successfully complete this degree. Inherent requirements are fundamental skills, capabilities and knowledge that students must be able to demonstrate in order to achieve the essential learning outcomes of the degree, while maintaining the academic integrity of the degree. Please read and understand the inherent requirements specific to the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) before applying.

If you think you may experience any problems meeting inherent requirements, you can talk to a Student Equity Officer about reasonable adjustments that may be put in place to assist you. Any reasonable adjustments made must not fundamentally change the nature of the inherent requirement.

    English Program Requirements

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows students to gain credit (advanced standing) towards their course in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or formal training. Applicants are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

    Career

    Career outcomes

    • After two years of full-time study with UniSQ, you’ll be workplace-ready and gain an additional Associate Degree of Engineering qualification as an embedded award on your way towards your Professional Engineer status.
    • Graduates from this engineering discipline may find work as a professional Mechatronics Engineer, Robotics Specialist, Control Engineer, Automation Engineer or Cross Disciplinary Engineer in the mining, manufacturing, Government, agriculture, health, automotive and aeronautical fields.
